So today I got an email from Trek about their anniversary line-up as I assume many have. One of the pics of the madone with gold accents showed a set of wheels with decals RSL 65X. I also remember a recent GCN video where Alex was looking at Jonathan Milan’s bike that had wheels that said prototype on them. This got me wondering if they slipped up and showed the new wheels in the photo.

The gold is nasty

The gold looks tacky as hell. Gold looks good when it’s small and subtle, like a watch or a ring. Whenever somebody starts plastering it all over things that shouldn’t ever be gold in the first place like toilets or bike wheels it just screams “LOOK AT ME! I’M TRYING REALLY HARD TO BE FANCY!” It ends up making the thing look worse and the person to whom it belongs look fake and tacky.
I agree with you about the gold. I am hoping that this is just a “specially marked” for the anniversary line-up and that they will also release a new wheelset without the flashy gold color and more inline with the color of the current line up.
