New Shimano Di2 Dura-Ace R9200 & Ultegra R8100

Spot on.

Is there any rumor on an Ultegra 12s that could be realesed in like 12months? That would filled rhe gap. Otherwise, I fully agree that ultegra has now moved to high end bike!

There will be NO Ultegra 12s mechanical released, according to Shimano.

They plan to maintain the current Ultegra R8000 for a while (not definitive duration stated that I have seen), as the gap filler (between R8100 Di2 and R7000) in this area.

I could see mechanical be a 105 and under thing from now on.

Hopefully the tech will trickle down and the current Ultegra (or DA) 11 will become 105 mechanical in a few years (with modifications for cost)

105 will be going electronic next, according to people I know in the industry. No word on if it will be electronic only, but it would seem unlikely that they would offer a 12 spd mechanical at 105 only.

Yes… I didn’t mean 12 speed…
I mean mechanical 11 speed.

Are they predicting 105 Di2 12 or 105 Di2 11 (by reusing Di2 11 system and trickling them down)

Almost certainly 12spd….

That’s sad… I see this as a challenge for the kids racing (e.g.U17 /U15). The teams are providing spare wheels for races. It’s already complex with rim, disk brake, disk size… some kids are on Di2. Some others have a ultegra mechanical with aluminum wheels ( bikes at 3k$).

Interesting.
I wonder what will this do the bike industry as a whole.
Moving to electronics is great for most.
But not everyone want to, because of price or maintenance or usage.

Its actually a shame the industry is moving to be JUST electronic shifting for higher end bikes.

Oh, to a be a ā€˜kid’ and rolling on Ultegra Di2… let alone Ultegra of any kind.

Quite a luxury when viewed from my current station in life, not to mention what I would have had as an under 18 kit. I’d be happy with a modern Tiagra bike and 105 as a stretch when considering what I had at that age. All that to say I won’t shed a tear for anyone pining over the new 12s groups with the amazing quality available in the modern 10s & 11s groups that are far more economically priced.

I fully agree with you on that, but you would be surprised how many U17 kids show up at race with top end bikes.

Untill now we had some options for bike in ultegra with 11s much below 3k$ which is what is mainly used in the kids peloton. The wheels are compatible with the DA top-end bike.

My concern is not for the rich kids but for the Club providing spare wheels as a service. They are on a tight budget and it will make thing more complex.

Seems like mechanical road groupsets are going to be dying a slow death, which doesn’t seem so bad since it would in theory eliminate those group ride moments when someone can’t slot into the right gear because of a slightly worn or dirty cable. Then again most of the mechanical die hards are too stubborn to move along with the times so I’m sure I’ll be hearing a lot of click click click anyway.

I think most people agree that electronic is the future.
Wat really bums me out, is hat cycling, as a whole, has always been seen as a ā€œsports for people with moneyā€. Moving all to electronics, unless prices start to fall, will just make this a full on reality, when people cant even get an entry race bike, say an AL bike with 105, for 1500! They will praolaby belooking at 2500+ for a bike like that…

Meh…I just prefer the feel of mechanical. Not stubbornness, just preference. Personally, I think the supposed advantages of electronic are overrated.

I see plenty of guys with misadjusted electronic systems….it is not an issue exclusive to mechanical.

Allez?!

The difference there is that electronic once properly set will never go out of alignment unless you physically damage something (bent hanger, bent cage, bent something), while a mechanical system will always go out of alignment as the cables wear, it’s just a matter of when: a few weeks? Months? Years?

Sure…
but once Shimano go di2 105 12 speeds… that bike will start at 2xxx…
Thats a lot of money.
Allez used to cost < 1k for 105 Mix.

the less expensive Allez you can get is 1k. And it has 8 speed!!!
for 9 speed you are now at 1200
11 speeds 105 is 1600 (2300 with discs)
So no more entry level AL bikes…
And thats a shame IMO.

Race bikes are not a NEED but a WANT, so I really don’t feel bad about the prices at all. People who rely on bicycles as a mode of transport will continue to have lots of affordable choices. If Mercedes releases a new car tomorrow that costs $5,000,000 it doesn’t mean cars are only for people with money, but the people buying corollas will still benefit from the trickling down of that high end safety tech in due time.

Thank the dentists who bought into Red eTap when everyone cried highway robbery, they are the reason Rival AXS can exist

Fair point.

There’s an SL7 with the new Dura Ace up on the site now…$1k more than the prior version.
