New Roval Wheels

I’ve been on group rides in 20+mph winds with 30+mph gusts (32+ and 48+kph), the folks on Enve 5.6 were fine and the CLX 50 and 64 folks were having trouble keeping the bike on a straight line. I’ve found its better to relax and slowly respond to the wind jerking the handlebars.

High speed descending in gusty crosswinds, like we get in the mountains of CA? Maybe I’m not so brave anymore, I start breaking at 35mph on the Enve 5.6.

CLX 64 v Roval CLX is Night and day. CLX 64 is the worst wheel I have experienced in cross winds so far, including 80mm DtSwiss, Tri spokes etc.

I have the CLX 40 and CLX 50. I have ridden the CLX 64 when I was deciding between them and the CLX 50s. My test rides included windy flats along the north coast as well as 45min long windy descents. The 64s were scary when descending at speed w/wind. I love the 50s.

Of the 40s and 50s, I prefer to rock the 50s w/sworks turbo 26mm rubber. While I have ridden 26mm on the 40s, the internal rim width is a bit too small, 24mm is actually the better fit. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong w/the 40s and 24mm rubber, but I love the 50s w/26mm.

I’m thinking to buy just a front CLX Rapide amd leave rear CLX 64…

That should be fine

Completely agree, currently riding the CLX64’s on wide 31 mm tires at the front, had some serious butt pucker moments when speeds reaches above 60 km/h (37 mph).

going narrow at 28 mm has helped a lot for stability. swapped it about 6 months ago and its noticeably more stable in crosswinds.

Swapped wheels or just tires?

For sure, I mean, in no rational world would it be the better choice to pay another $1000 for 100g lighter…

I am still a bit sad that they didn’t release the Rapide CL, but it didn’t stop me from getting a pair for the second time the other day.

Just the tires.
