Still managed to be a solid 18+ hour drive for me, but at least it’s a little more accessible and not at elevation.

Any updates on the registration for this event? I can’t find any–hoping for some insider intel.

Site and registration is live:

Glad they have an east coast event. Wish it was earlier in the year though….but beggar cant be choosers i suppose.

Anyone else doing this? I signed up for it. No idea what to expect, but I’m hopeful that I can have a token roll down to me for Leadville.

Two weeks after Little Sugar and Rattler is two weeks after Coldwater. pretty compact scheduling.

Maybe nobody else will register and I’ll win my age group for being the only one in it and get a coin

I wish. Nowhere near ready. Maybe next year. I have ridden there twice and would love to get back.
As for actual Leadville, I’d have a better chance at getting in on From the Ground Up next year…

I’m doing the 50K. I made the drive up last week (5 hrs) to do a little course recon. I’ve heard how great the trails are, but had never ridden them. They did not disappoint. The Bomb Dog descent is one of the best I’ve ever ridden and the Hare trail might be the most fun I’ve ever had on a green trail descent.

How technical is the course? I’m looking to do an event to celebrate turning 70, but my skills need work. I’ve done some skills courses but still need some work.

Great question! I’ve been wondering the same thing. There really isn’t much info specifically for this event. If you youtube “anniston alabama trails” you can see some videos of some of the trails. I’m not sure how much of those same trails are the ones that are in the event though.

There are definitely quite a few technical sections. The Upper Bomb Dog descent is very rocky and technical. I think it’s rated Blue but I’ve ridden Black trails that are tamer. Most of the trails are rocky and some of the climbs require a decent level of skill and balance to clean. I could see myself having to put a foot down once or twice if I’m cracked. Not all of them are technical though and there are plenty of flowy sections, especially the Hare descent which comes at like mile 25.

I’ve only ridden the trails once at this point so someone else may have some better input.

Thanks. This is really helpful. Blue trails are a stretch for me so if they are tough blues it’s unlikely that even with a few extra classes this isn’t going to be a good event for me.

Some chubby guy made this video on Bomb Dog almost 12 years ago. Not sure how relevant it still is today…

Some discussion on the Leadville Facebook group. Reported to be a very “real” MTB event, lots of singletrack, rocky, and very technical.

Coldwater is not something id consider as very tech. Its nowhere near anything youd find at pisgah. Its east coast mtb. Yeah we have roots….everywhere
