Navigation on Garmin 530

I have a Garmin 530 and would like to configure navigation so that it alerts me about upcoming turns but then automatically returns to my activity profile screen displaying heart rate, speed, time, etc. How can I set this up?

Isn’t that default? When you are on a normal data page, you will get a pop up with the map view and turn info.

Only related option i can find is under the activity profile>navigation> navigation prompts.
Here you can choose the type of pop up, text or map

(Or similar… this is on a 840)

Same, I thought as long as you have a route set it automatically pops up with any turn information as you approach.

I’m on my second 530 and my first one would toggle back and forth from the map (turn navigation) to my activity profile. Currently, my screen stays on the navigation/map function. It is kind of frustrating to not see the activity profile. I have turn navigation and off course turned on. Any ideas?

Try this:

Steps to Stay on Activity Screen & Keep Turn Prompts

  1. Go to Settings on your Garmin Edge 530.

  2. Select Activity Profiles and choose your current profile (e.g., “Road,” “Race,” etc.).

  3. Scroll down and tap Navigation.

  4. Find Map & Display settings.

  5. Turn Off “Automatically Switch to Map” (or “Auto Routing” depending on firmware version).

  6. Ensure “Turn Guidance” is Enabled so pop-ups still appear.

Everything follows until I get to step 5. The two options, “Automatically Switch to Map” (or “Auto Routing” depending on firmware version), are not listed. There is

  • “Guide Text” now set for “Always Display.”

  • “Map visibility” now set as Auto.

  • Etc.

Ah, I have a 540 now so I wasn’t able to test those, must be old data. The only thing I could think to try is changing the navigation prompts to text only and see if that does anything but otherwise I guess I’m not sure. I don’t remember my 530 ever switching off my current screen just the turn directions popping up.

Found this on google and will give it a try.

The guide text setting on a Garmin Edge 530 controls when turn-by-turn navigation prompts appear on the map. You can find this setting in the Activity Profile menu.

How to change the guide text setting

  1. Select Menu
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Activity Profiles
  4. Choose a profile
  5. Select Navigation
  6. Select Map
  7. Select Guide Text
