Moving from TT bike to Road bike, adjust FTP?

Hello!

I’m back after a very long break and am unfamiliar with the state of the art when it comes to adjusting between good FTP settings for my TT bike and Road bike to account for the power difference between the two. I’ve done my last block of training on my TT; starting with a ramp test, and a couple of AI FTP updates in the meantime. I now want to switch to training on my road bike for a different event. What does the hive mind think is the best approach:

  • Do another ramp test. It’ll suck, but accuracy is cool, bruh.
  • Bump my FTP by some percentage.
  • Carry on and let the AI do its thing.

Thanks

I’m glad to see that the correct answer is leading the survey by a long shot here.

There’s two things in play here:

  1. You’re back from a very long break.

  2. You’re changing bikes.

I’d test, 100%.

I used to train and race on my TT bike, but after giving in to chemo damaged nerves I’ve been riding on my road bike more outside but my TT bike is still the turbo bike and AI seems to cope ok.

I always adjust my FTP when I swap back and forth between my TT bike and road bike. It’s about a 10% difference so it adds up for sure and I’ll tank my first workouts going from road to TT. If you are going from TT to road and/or your difference isn’t that big, you may be able to get away with it.
