More S-Works Shenanigans - New Pathfinders

Meanwhile gravel riding around me is basically just dirty road riding with occasional holes and washboards. Still avg 19-20mph on most Z2/3 rides

Wow! So different.

haha yeah pretty crazy. Makes it funny when people ask “What’s the best gravel tire?” When for me it’s a high volume slick or semi-slick and for others it’s basically an XC tire.

Just received the first delivery. Feel more supple than the Pro, the thread is less aggressive, and the sidewall looks different.
Not gonna try them super soon though.

Look Great!

I’m interested to hear your opinions on it, I think the suppleness might be placebo as both the SW and Pro are 120TPI.

IMO without actually holding the tire or doing any type of analysis on them yet, all Spec did was take a pro and cut the rubber down on them, especially the center as it was crazy thick already to save the weight.

TPI isn’t the only indication of “suppleness” though…

Not all TPI is created equal. For example, the following will both given a TPI of 120, but be very different in suppleness:

  • Single ply that is 120 TPI
  • 3 ply system, where each ply is 40 TPI

Ummmm…I don’t think so… their tires at Unbound were clearly marked Pathfinder Pro and had the standard, deeper tread…and black sidewalls.
Do you have some information they were running disguised versions?

You‘re probably correct. I got things mixed up. The article stated that the two rode Pathfinders and that the two rode prototypes. These two events however weren’t the same.

I was also under that impression but upon rereading it seems they were standard Pathfinder Pros

Test is there. It’s basically just as fast as the Pro, just lighter and with lower knobs.
So a Great light weight Option with strong puncture protection, but a little upsetting on the speed.

For me, the Getaways stay on for now.

Hard to say. Does a metal drum test translate to rough gravel roads? Maybe the lighter casing would make it faster on a bumpy surface. Can’t say I put a ton of stock in the BRR tests for gravel racing (unless it’s lots of pavement or super smooth gravel I guess).

I guess the thinner casing should translate well to performance on the drum as well.
I don’t think BRR testing is perfect either, but it’s probably the best indication we have atm, and it is rather unimpressive.

Maybe this is interesting for some:
47cx700 Pro version on 26mm TSS rim:

42cx700 S-Works on said rim

The difference is 2mm, not 5. and the 47c should fit most bikes rated for 45c tires.

26mm internal width ? Which wheels are these?

Very nice. Similar weight to the Roval Terra CLX. Wonder how they compare….

Real weight is 1300g dead for me with 1 layer of TL tape and valves installed. I have had 9th wave rims for several years now and never had an issue. The hubs and spokes are well known and top class anyway, so no issues there.

I have a pair that I’ll put on to my gravel bike once gravel riding season arrives. This will be my tire for Unbound unless a lot of rain/mud is expected, in which case I’ll run 42s.

Where are people finding the Pathfinder Pro 47cx700? I didn’t see it listed on the Specialized website…only 47cx650b.
