I think this is what we should all run in our pain caves

Has anyone been able to compare the kickr headwind to one of the lasko fans?

I wouldn’t mind paying a premium if it performs the same or slightely better since i can’t get my hands on a lasko one.

I can’t seem to find the lasko (or equivalent) fan on amazon.de. Has anyone had better luck and/or can point me in the right direction?

I have this one since september and was really pleased with the quality so I ordered a second fan last week: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07GC3Y86K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought it these two times in ‘used condition’ at the very reasonable price of respectively €42 and €33. In my case the ‘used condition’ refered to the minor damage of the packaging it came in. So if you are willing to wait a bit longer and monitor the price drops you can make a sweet deal. If not you still get a decent priced fan

Those fans are very loud. The TFV 30 is 86.2 dB on high and the 4500 is 82 dB. If you’re not familiar with sound levels, it’s not a linear scale. The 4500 would be loud, and you might want ear plugs for the tfv 30

Just had the opportunity to try the Lasko and I was blown away (couldn’t help myself). But seriously, its leaps and bounds better than the 18" honeywell. I have it about a wheel or 2 away from the front of the bike (optics for the misses as the bike lives in the living room) an it has no problem providing more power than a medium vornado would be at close range. I purchased the 4905, which is, according to Lasko 374 CFM on high (different than the 4900 which is not as powerful), only thing more powerful would have been the max performance U15701. Definitely recommended.

I’m sure I missed it scrolling through this thread, but I wanted to upgrade my cooling system now that it’ll get warmer and due to Covid-19 will be relegated inside for a while.

What is the difference between a large fan and the blowers? I would imagine that the larger fan blows all over you whereas the blower has a smaller more direct stream. Therefore I would assume that the larger fan would cover face and body, whereas the blower would only be pointed at one of the two.

I’m looking at these two, but would like to understand the difference between them before pulling the trigger.

Thanks, stay safe and keep getting faster!

Also, looking to understand if pivoting on the blowers is automatic (like a fan, just going up and down, or is locked in position) and also if there are blowers with remote controls.

Pivot is not automatic on any blower fans.

There are also none with remotes. You can use a wireless outlet remote to turn them on or off remotely.

Some people have used this control to adjust speed along with main power.

For choice, the blowers have more useful flow that hits exactly where you want it, and much faster than the open circular fans.

I run 2 blowers at the front and one circular at the rear, often in the oscillation mode to stir air in the room and in my back as well.

Thanks!

I currently am using a wireless socket for my smaller directional fan. I’m wondering whether I’d prefer the larger fan coverage or the blower pushing a lot of air on my chest, or face, causing some dry mouth as it happens now with the directional fan.

Aiming the blowers is one advantage I can hit right on my chest to get air across and not hit my face.

The blower fans are much better than axial fans. If you want broader coverage with a blower fan, just move it further away, or get 2 blower fans.

With the blower fans, some people have said their eyes get dry - and use glasses inside. So I guess your mouth might get dry also if you’re prone to that.

But if you want to stay cool, and not drip sweat everywhere, blower fans are the way to go.

This is the most important part of the blower fan. I have an axial fan that is great for Z2 rides and overall cooling but adding blower fan that is pointed into my chest was a game changer in terms of cooling. The difference is the best visible during long, steady efforts at FTP.

Sadly, they don’t list the flow specs, or in would have listed them. All we have to go by is size.

The other change that can make a huge difference is elevation your fan. I put my fan on top of a box to raise it off the floor, and that small change made a huge difference in the amount of airflow I get.

The fork mount and Kickr mount together make up the InsideRide Kickr E-FLEX system. At least for me, using this system makes a huge difference in comfort, especially for longer (1:30+) rides

Look for the Lasko Pro Performance on Amazon. It is excellent and I found it selling for $60! I mounted it on a ladder so that it would blow down on me. On it’s lowest setting it is moving a lot of air. Almost too cold with it on.

Try DCDimpler it is awesome sorry don’t have a link but i picked mine up 2nd hand for $40 and i only need one fan. Bunnings sell a similar fan link below

It looks the same and probably made by the Same manufacturer and if it does blow enough air return it for full refund

This is a PSA that I also posted on the deals thread. But Costco has a Lasko carpet blower fan for $60 that has a air flow max of 700cfm (which is much higher…nearly double what the Lasko 4900 or the U12104) can do. It is green (or was it grey…I forget) and only slight is it isn’t as adjustable as the two typically recommended. It is in store only and not online that I can find. I’ve seen it in a store I go to and my brother has seen the same on in another store across the metro area.

For reference I have an alternate brand carpet blower that is a 1/5hp motor does 800 or 900 cfm max flow (get conflicting info when I look up the specs). I feel that isn’t enough for me and I just bought a blower with an 1/2hp motor that does 2800+ max cfm flow rate. Both the blowers I got are B-Air brand (bought them because I got them from an outlet/clearance type store for smoking deals compared to new).

No lasko blower fans in the Maryland area at Costco :slightly_frowning_face:
