Looking for cooling fan recommendations

The Lasko is great. My one complaint is that even on the lowest setting it is pretty strong. I wish there was one level lower for those easier workouts when I want some air movement, but don’t need the full blast!

Thanks for finding this. I just ordered one, so once I get it and use it for a bit I will post a review. Here’s hoping this was a good purchase

I posted this elsewhere, but I’m putting it here as this thread looks more current.

Like many, I use the Lasko Pro blower fan. But I’ve always wanted to redirect its airflow from horizontal to vertical to match the surface area of a cyclist on the bike. Similar to what all the more expensive cycling-specific fans do (such as Wahoo).

I reached out to a maker on Etsy who makes 3D-printed parts for power tools and nozzles for leaf blowers. After sharing some information, they voluntarily tracked down the same Lasko fan and kindly reverse-engineered a nozzle that bolted onto the Lasko blower and redirected the airflow.

If you’ve been seeking a solution like this for your Lasko fans, here’s a link to the product page on Etsy. (I’m not affiliated with the maker/seller of this adapter. I’m just passing on their info since they helped me with my novel cycling-related request).

Share your experience once you get this.

Based on my experience testing the Jetblack Trainer Fan I would have gone for a wider “nozzle”. I found the narrow nozzle on the Jetblack made it not that useful given my paincave setup.

Maybe I have a wide tush, but I don’t have a problem with the orientation of my Lasko fans. The width of the air channel matches the width of my body. I did elect to place the fans differently to most: one is directly behind me, on a drink cart, blowing at my glutes, with some air diverting up my back and the rest down my hammies. This is nice because it hits a lot of surface area without getting in my face (eyes/lips), and it’s easier to tolerate right off the bat before I get warmed up fully.

The second fan which I only enable after I start to suffer is hanging directly in front of me at eye level but tilted down towards my neck, chest and core. I don’t think I’m wasting any airflow from that one either.

Just throwing this out there as an idea for others to try out.

I also found a surge protector on Amazon where every plug is individually switched. I have situated it such that I can reach it from my bike and don’t have to worry about remote controls getting lost or running out of batteries.

Need some advice!

I currently have (2) Lesko 4905 units (These)

I am looking to use one of the 4905 units for my wife (treadmill/trainer) and displace it with a new unit. The (2) 4905 felt like I had enough airflow/force but just barley.

So which unit should I go with now?

Lasko Max Performance

or

Lasko Super Fan

I am not getting a very strong feeling from commentors as which will be better, both fans will be in front of the bike either directly or at an angle (doesn’t matter) and can go around 3’ from the end/front of tire and has slight able up to hit top chest and head/face.

Thanks guys!

As an unrequested suggestion, this model seems a decent option with tilt control and between the price point of both above.

Thanks Chad - I fixed the mistake (still groggy when I started typing).

I looked at the U15617 also but from what I read above its a little narrow.

I grabbed this image from enki42

It would seem that the U15617 is less powerful than the 4905 that I have but the 15720 I feel is rated the way it is because it is around 3" wider (which may be some of the issues I was having before, the 4905 being somewhat narrow).

Has anyone tried the Vornado Fly Max High-Velocity Fitness Fan?

@AlphaDogCycling I have the Sharper Image FLY 01, which is/was the Shaper Image version. Same fan, but with different branding.

I’ve really liked it. The remote works to start, stop, or adjust the speed. So I start with no fan until I get situated and settled in. Then I start it on low and ramp up as I need it. It puts out a good volume of air on high.

Bought it when it was mentioned on the podcast as my girlfriend wanted to start joining me. I’ve also got a Lasko performance without a remote.

So far I’ve really liked it. Remote mounts nicely on my handlebars. I haven’t had it up all the way but the lowest settings still blow a lot of air. Wish the buttons weren’t so tall, turning it on/off/changing speeds need to be intentional rather than just hitting in the general area. It’s a fan, I’m happy with it.

Caveat: It’s been 25°F/-4°C here and I work out in a cold garage.

I just upgraded my setup to three. I have two lasko fans in the front, one on the wall at head height and one in front of my front wheel and a third behind me blowing on the backs of my legs. All three are connected to a Levition wifi dimmer plug…so from my phone I can control the speed of all three.

No notes. It’s a perfect setup for me and keeps me cool at low fan speeds because of the coverage and for AE/Vo2max it’s fantastic at 100%.

I’m up to 5…

With 4 in the front I had to shut them off within about a minute of a ride completing the other day since I was getting cold.

I have 2 - 20” Lasko Floor Fans - one in front and one behind. Both are controlled by smart plugs so I can turn one or both on depending on how hard I’m riding. I usually warm-up with no fans, then turn the back one on for Zone 2 rides and then if going harder I’ll turn the front one on. I keep my basement at ~17° C so that also helps.

I hadn’t thought of putting a fan that high up, will give it a try so thanks for the photo. I keep trying to work out what the optimal positioning is for multiple fans!

That is an oldie right there. Here is my current setup that took the concept and improved on it with the 3 blower fans.

I hadn’t considered ducting my fans. Is that a good upgrade?
