I don’t change fan speeds during workouts, but I do have my fan on a smart timer. In the winter when my pain cave is cold, I begin my warmup with the fan off, then turn it on right as I begin to sweat a little.
I think there are some fans that have remote controls to change fan speeds, though.
This won’t help with any current fan you have, and it’s not cheap, but I have a Vornado Fly Max fan (about $120 on Amazon US). This fan is a designed as a fitness fan, has a vertical output pattern, and includes a small remote with a velcro strap and handlebar mount.
I start my work out with the fan either off or on the lowest of four speeds, and adjust it as the session progresses.
My floor fan has a remote control. Highly recommended. I can turn it on and off and adjust speed with the remote. But I can’t adjust the up/down or rotation setting as they are mechanically adjusted
You can buy a Bluetooth transmitter for about $30 and hook it up to your TV’s line out or optical out and then wear your favorite Bluetooth earbuds or headphones to listen in silence. Amazon has a bunch of them.
Luckily we have a house with a basement, so I’m able to watch TV at normal volume without bothering anyone.
I keep a broomstick on my trainer table and use that to be able to reach the buttons on the fans.
I’m always freezing cold during my warmup and during rest intervals.
I wear a hooded fleece during my warm-up, my fan doesn’t get turned on until I’m warmed up? If you are getting that cold during rest intervals perhaps you have too many fans?
Also, for those with the mounted TV setups; do you have a wireless headphone set up
Ewwww, headphones no, thats gross. I have a set of speakers hooked up that are load enough to hear over the fan noise. Where are you training that your family aren’t getting woken up by fan/ trainer noise but will get woken up by the TV sound?
I have two fans aimed differently and powered by a set of cheap remote control outlets. I set one fan on medium speed and the other on high. While on the trainer I can turn one, the other, or both on/off. I got these 5 years ago:
I have an Apple TV connected to the TV in my pain cave and the my Airpods are connected via bluetooth. But it will also work with any other brand of bluetooth headphones. But I think it might only work if you are watching something through the Apple TV (ie youtube, netflix, etc.) rather than the TV itself (I rarely do the latter so I can’t remember).
The Apple TV 4k has run Zwift, Rouvy, and MyWoosh pretty well for me when I had used them in the past
Really depends on your setup, but here’s what I’m doing: I mounted one of these controllers to a stand next to my trainer and plugged a power strip into it. Both fans plug into that strip. I leave the fans set to High, then use the controller’s knob to dial in whatever airflow I want. Super smooth and way easier to adjust mid‑ride.
You also get a full 15A capacity, which means you can run multiple fans from it — depending on your fan draw, an example would be seven Lasko U15610 Pros from a single controller without overloading it.

To answer your other question, I built a mini PC (Intel NUC to be exact) that is HDMI right into a TV all mounted on a wall. It is mostly Bluetooth and able to connect to whatever I want (TR, Youtube, Zwift, Rouvy, pandora, streaming service), Headphones, my phone or everything at the same time.
It’s a 1993 . Has the green factory wheels. As with the Mac it’s was the spouse that knew someone at the dealer and store to get them when the first ones were shipped.
Those were the fast days. Back when we owned everything. Good years for pirates. Did manage to get to 500,000 songs before apple, In between races. Don’t know how I found the time to have so much fun.
