We’ve done it…twice, actually. I think we made about $5k…off of about $70k in resources.
This is the tricky thing. I’m sure we COULD make it work and make some money.
But that would take away from other things. Even pushing back launches like two weeks have a huge impact based on our seasonality.
I really want to 10x the amount of athletes on TrainerRoad and make the world faster!! The kit/swag thing could be a form of advertising…but the question is…could we advertise BETTER and at SCALE compared to that. Probably.
To give you another idea…Strava has 100m athletes and stopped selling their own kits.
That being said, I’d love it if we had a TR Yeti mug store :-D. We have them for employees and friends of TR and I LOVE them.
Great thread.
I cannot find any email from 6/1/23, who do I need to contact to sort it out?
Emailing support@trainerroad.com is always a good place to start.
Hi there! If you’d like to stay at your legacy rate or make any other changes to your subscription choice, you’ll need to contact TrainerRoad support. You can submit a request to support here.
I’ve done just about every type of merch there is. From local to off-shore, custom to bulk, on-demand to inventoried.
I guarantee TR support will get clogged up with all types of feedback and tickets even if the item is purchased on a third-party site and every touch point provides a vendor (non-TR) support contact. The item says TrainerRoad so people be contacting TrainerRoad.
The ROI isn’t there for merch for a brand like TR if they just throw some TR stuff online.
It’d need to be a well invested brand awareness campaign and hopefully one of the ten items really catches on. Or the merch is a physical component in a social campaign. The campaign discovery process could yield some beneficial marketing insights but even typing this, my brain is already switching gears to things that aren’t directly merch related.
Look at the stories Rapha et al tell to sell stuff; that’s what I’m getting at. It’d take some effort to create and test the stories that’d connect indoor training and a desirable, identity-based merch item. Very possible, but it takes resources.
Having said that… yeah, throw an order of Yeti’s online and it’s a fan favour that’ll get sold out. Not sure it’ll move any needles that need to be moved, though.
And the platform went downhill ever since. Curious.
Yes. This pls.
“Legacy pricing = sell us kit, T shirts, and mugs”
Look, if anybody wants a yeti mug with TR on it, just order one for yourself for chrissakes! I’m so sick of “merch” posts on this thread!!!
Joe
I apologize if this has been answered in one of the previous 419 posts, but if i opt to stay with legacy today as my financial situation doesn’t allow me to increase, will the 15% discount to the full price annual membership be open down the road when it does allow for it? Or does the 15% go away after my membership has renewed if i choose my legacy billing?
I suspect even if it doesn’t show a quick email to support would get it sorted. They’re hardly going to turn down more money than legacy if you’re offering it.
I just noticed this. How does one even figure out what kind of pricing they’re on, and whether they can change it or not?
I’d start by heading to the TR website, then “Account” on the side bar, and “Account Info” in the sub menu.
Yea I tried that…doesnt say anything.
What exactly IS legacy pricing? Was there a year that startdd or stopped? I’ve had an account for years, have never seen anything regarding this.
Have you started by watching Nate’s video and reading the OP at the top? That covers a fair bit of the background.
TR sent out emails about this in January, so perhaps you missed that or it ended up in a spam folder?
At this point, you may be better off contacting support@trainerroad.com for help.
Are you sure you clicked on “Account Information?”
Yea…brings me to the screen that says account active in green…and then subscription and upcoming payment of $19.95…is that the one?
Yes. So you’re on a monthly play at $19.95
Yea that i know, but there isnt a button for legacy or not legacy or anything…
You’d have needed to be on a subscription from ~2018-2019 when the last increase was.
$19.95 sounds like the normal amount so nothing you need to do
