That looks very… JOIN, if you know what I mean. Fits in with their style, simple.
Does it do the annoying thing Garmin does, where it puts you back into erg mode with every new interval?
I don’t tend to use erg mode (apart from rest periods in high V02 short intevals) but I’ve not noticed it do anything like that, like I said though I’ve not used it very much, I’ve got a easy workout today, tempted give it a go for s and giggles
Only thing I’ve really noticed is that it doesn’t have a intensity change, I like that it’s one press for erg on/off, like @jcolp said, it’s just a simple (clean) interface, I’ve got no problem with it, just it’s very …well that a workout player
Thanks. Think you’d have noticed if it did that, especially if you don’t use erg mode. If I run a workout from my garmin, it’ll reset to erg mode for every interval (so I have to and change it back to resistance all the time).
I’ve cancelled my subscription to Join as during the summer I just ride my bike and don’t train as such. I was surprised and mildly disappointed that on cancelling my subscription it appeared to cancel it with immediate effect despite having another 3 weeks to run. I’m not bothered though as I’d stopped using it anyway.
Have used the workout player when traveling using HR only. That worked well and simplified things. But still going back to exporting workouts to Trainerday when at home. To me this Ux is prioritizing form over function. Having a progress bar without the end of the bar defined… not having the overview in the form of a graph of what is next… font sizes that are too small to read (when using rollers and putting the device on a desk in front of the bike). Those are all easily fixed and convinced they will get there at some point.
The bigger issue I suspect is the infrastructure. Without local storage or a web-interface, there is no way to recover data if the upload to Strava fails. You could argue that is not a big deal for a single workout, but was surely annoying when it happened.
But happy to keep exporting, never been more confident in a training plan and methodology.
Fatal flaw!
This app doesn’t handle high volume well, it has extended my recovery week and hasn’t recommended training in 10 days!
Fail!….good thing I never paid a dime. I will proceed to copy some of my favorite workouts from their library, that’s about the only thing one can use this app for.
Just out of interest what did you have your activity profile set to (number of hours) ? Sounds like you have it set to low
When you say high volume, what do you mean, I’ve been using Join on 12 hour weeks with np
Thanks for pointing this out. I had selected intermediate for the off-season. Changing to Advanced did the trick.
I,ve been doing 11-12h, intermediate can’t handle this well
Ah that is interesting, it explains the “progress” bar. Think it’s basically a number of hours you are expected to do over the course of a plan. I was at 101% with “intermediate” volume, but switched to “advanced”, and it went down to 76%. My plan and planned workouts didn’t change.
I’m sort of just between intermediate and advanced, but as the weather is getting better, will likely be riding more.
I didn’t see any problems with extra rest days or such, even though I did 11 hours on "intermediate (recommended 6-9 hours). Maybe only if you’re always too high?
looks at his two days of rest in his plan that came in because he went rogue due to the first 20C+ day outside and nods approvingly
I’ve just set up an account and have to say so far I’m impressed. I’ll be interested to see how it responds to my long rides at weekends (keen audax rider) the first week of training it has me doing quite short rides with some VO2 and strength intervals, I won’t be doing those this weekend as I’m doing a 200km ride on Saturday, so it’ll be fun to see how it changes things.
I’m hoping that this is finally the app that I’ve been looking for as the others I’ve tried (mainly Xert and TrainerRoad) don’t really fit with how I ride and want to train. Very interesting.
Welcome to the club @Chop_Stick! Hopefully this does indeed jive with you. I also went through a similar journey (Xert and TrainerRoad) and ended up here.
And wave to all those who may be reading this or joining as a result of the link on that other rather long thread. >_>
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, I don’t think anyone here works for JOIN but we know stuff and things.
Did my first century in about two years yesterday and only got the one rest day today that was in the plan anyway. It even gave me a “you’re doing a bit too much” warning. Stacks up with what intervals.icu thought though, it dipped into red yesterday and today I’m back in green. Maybe I have to ride the next century a bit harder, lol!
I’ve just gone back into the app and worked out how to change the planned workout for my ride on Saturday, put in the expected intensity and duration and low and behold it took Sunday’s workout out and put in a recovery day instead. This is great in my opinion as other apps (Xert in particular) don’t seem to factor in extra recovery when you’ve done a hard ride.
I am not back in green yet. I won’t be tomorrow either.
Next workout is 5x 5 min strength short for an hour on Wednesday.
If you add the 200km ride as your planned ride for Saturday, you’ll notice that it adjusts you training, just a suggestion so that you get a feeling of how the app works, it should clear out some days before hand for you
I have a question: How do the plans differ from each other? I couldn‘t find any information.
There isn’t specific details on all of the workouts contained within plans. I don’t have any definitive information, but I suspect that the plans have different groups of workouts that when done together help improve your fitness to reach the goal of the plan over time.
Yeah I played around with it. But I‘d like to have some more information about them.
I was on two plans so far and they seems kind of similar. So maybe it doesn‘t matter that much.
