JOIN cycling app

Would probably do the same in his position but not buying it.
Join is using standard CTL, hysteresis is caused by FTP. Try changing your FTP and then change it back.

Yes, in the forum is a question on that. Someone was playing with FTP back and forth and found out he ended up with a lower score than what he started with.

They probably aren’t using CTL, just like Strava isn’t using CTL but Fitness is practically the same.

Doesn’t your approximation break down around the edges, as the score reaches 1 and 50?

My TR account is public, so I thought it would be visible. Anyway here is a screenshot. This is from a Join workout shared to TP, linked to Garmin and with Garmin controlling my TrueBike hometrainer:

Thanks. Mine looks odd, I wonder what happens. I export it from Join directly to Garmin, then use Garmin connect to push to my old Edge 520, which controls the Trainer (JetBlack Volt). I’ll have to have a look at the file to see if the drops are already in there. It’s not a big issue for me, just a bit weird.

I’m using a mixture of both to see what works best. TR is really good for the simplicity of pushing workouts to TP then pulling them to TR. Xert is a bit more involved but is far more flexible in extending the workout for an adequate warm up & cool down. You can also modify HIT workouts to automatically switch to Slope mode from Erg for the intense bits. At some point I’ve probably got to make a decision on which to drop as I can’t just keep on racking up more subscriptions.
Also on the old Xert iOS App you can match the power to another power meter. If I wasn’t on the TR legacy pricing that wold be the deciding factor in dropping TR come resubscription time.

I find the Xert method really easy. A quick export to “zwift/zwo file” from within JOIN sends the file to my email. A button press within the email downloads the zwo file. Then import it to xert with the default xssr and mmp settings and ive got myself a SMART workout within xert.

Tomorrow’s SMART JOIN Cycling workout…

I’m on pause at the moment (great that you can do that). Hopefully I feel better and can resume soon!

Hey i hope you’re feeling better soon. Nothing serious we hope

I’m loving the app. Signed up for their strava deal the other day (6 months for 39 euro - £35.00).

Loving it so far.

Im following their 12 week “Indoor Plan” and when thats completed will begin the 12 weeks “Improve Long Climbs Plan” to get ready for my trip to Girona with my son next Summer.

I had the 6 x 40s sprints today: Follow Pedro on Strava to see this activity. Join for free.

I do my Join workouts using the Garmin head unit, both outside and inside.
The workflow is: Export from Join app to TP, turn on the Garmin head unit and run the workout.

For the 40 second sprints, I did use the free ride mode indoors, because I did each all-out rather then the fixed % of FTP that Join puts them at in the workout file.

Nice work :+1:

I’m using the export to TP function and doing the workout in Zwift. Its so easy to export it.

Their plans all seem to include too many sprints for my liking. How do you view the different plans again? I can’t see it but I’m sure I’m looking past it.

Some combination of TR plans and workout player, with Join sliders and Join/Garmin readiness would be the ultimate.

Join has had my FTP and Level increasing again the last week, which is interesting because I haven’t done any workouts I would think that would indicate an increase in either (except fitness/CTL/TSS).

I can’t see exactly how much of the ride data Join is analysing. I’ve been feeding it TR workouts mostly and some outside riding and I am not sure if it analyses it at a greater detail than TSS. On the flip side, I think the effect of a high TSS ride on upcoming rides (i.e. changing to rest days etc) seems like a fantastic tool and better than how AT can currently adapt.

If TR can integrate WLV2 and Red Light Green Light to be along these lines they’ll be the closest to nailing it for me

That’s strange. Im only getting sprints one workout per week. I am also getting “strength” intervals. You’re not confusing the 2 as sprints are you as they’re completely different workouts but do look similar if you just look at the workout image.

For, me Fridays is VO2 max day. Today was 40s sprint with long recovery, but other weeks have e.g. been 30-30s, 30-15s and VO2 max Pyramide. If it wasn’t for Friday, the other 4 days I would only be doing endurance rides.

The plan depends on the type of target you have set, the target date and where you currently are at.

And the daily available hours.

No, admittedly when they’ve offered me a strength workout I’ve usually done TR SS. I did do one workout with all out type “strength” but they were 60sec intervals and I didn’t think there was an awful lot of value. I could only go from ~60rpm up to ~120rpm though as the resistance on that trainer is a manual change and more work than is worth for that type of workout

Sounds like JOIN Cycling isn’t your sort of plan. You might prefer the SS and HIIT plans from TR as opposed to the Polarized JOIN Cycling plans.

Me? I’m at the age where polarized with lots of easy riding and one or two high intensity workouts per week is ideal. Loving JOIN Cycling :bike:

I see, so your issue is more that with you trainer it is only manageable to do long intervals where you can set the resistance once and forget.

Yep. That’s my preference for intervals too.

I’ve been doing more “Polarized” if you like the last three weeks which has been good. TR Pol Base HV and using Join to sort of guide changes this last two weeks during my trial.

I have found the “intensive endurance” rides too easy and so have either dialled up TR SS, just picked a workout and pegged it at high Z2, or ridden outside.

I do think their system is excellent and I’ve definitely thought “oh yeah, that workout would be a good one”, but I am never rested enough for “sprints”. Maybe that’s some low hanging fruit I’m leaving on the tree. Certainly my results and fitness don’t seem to have scaled with some of the work I have done/can do :man_shrugging:
