JOIN cycling app

I had to contact support (not about this) and my initial e-mail caused a bit of confusion with the language barrier, once I was clearer and was explicit in the problem, they were great

I’d be interested if they give a better answer to your “something like”

So they are saying that

  1. you can only use ERG mode when using the app and that
  2. ERG mode tops out at 280 watts?

I was thinking of trying out JOIN, but 280 is tempo for me which leaves out a lot of zones

He’s saying with Erg mode off (resistance mode) , resistance tops out @ 280W, missing a comma

See what Join say to updated requested

Like I said before, use your head unit instead of the app

Not really, usually the low cadence work isn’t too taxing. Also this seems to only happen with certain plans (eg stamina builder) whereas other plans had the low cadence work after the hard workout (ftp builder, lsrf, winter maintenance and marmotte)

This was one the problems I had with the plans. In a 3 day sequence of workouts it would be something like medium level tempo / threshold day1, medium Vo2Max day 2 and intensive endurance day 3.

Some of the VO2max workouts would barely constitute classification as a Vo2max workout which was evident when I complete the workout outside manually on my head unit and JOIN classified it as base.

Always felt like I was sorta going hard but never easy or very hard.

Much prefer structure where my Tue / Thur workouts are hard / very hard and everything around those key workouts is easy enough that I can complete them successfully.

I can see lots of comments around volume is king etc. But when I was doing 15 hours on JOIN during the summer I just stagnated.

Back doing modified TR plans with 9 hours a week and I have regained 8 watts in 2 months and will hopefully get back to where I was last year before I switched to JOIN.

Loving the name. Being of an older age and in the uk. Arthur was a great guy. Loved watching it when i was younger.

I’m planning to focus on weight lifting Oct-Dec. I have an old FasCat 10-Week Weights plan that is basically Z2 and Muscle Tension Intervals (ie low cadence, high torque). TR has Traditional Base. Does JOIN have an equivalent plan?

I did Stamina Builder last year but it had VO2 and tempo. I also substituted a number of rides for TR endurance workouts, so I don’t have a good sense for how often these show up. (I really wish JOIN would show the entire plan, even if it will get adapted.)

Preface: ive not read the whole thread.

A big reason I use TR and dont forsee myself using anything else on the market, is that i completely trust the team behind it. Jon in a podcast episode spoke about trust and it really resonated with me. We as users have to trust that the team have the users best interest and based on solid/safe information. Im.not saying you cant/shouldnt trust another program, but for me TR is the only one ill use

My flip flopping continues. Went back to TR for a bit as I appreciated the increased intensity on a time crunched schedule (5 or so hours a week). While I think TR is best to get my FTP up on such a time crunched schedule, I’m going to be prioritizing weightlifting over the next 6+ months and think the easier workouts from JOIN will be more achievable on tired legs. I’ll be doing crossfit in the am with a ride at lunch or evening. JOIN’s pricing is also a significant advantage when cycling isn’t the #1 priority.

That being said, does anyone have a code promo code to share (here or dm) for JOIN? I’ve already used the lanterne rouge code when it initially came out.

Btw if you want more intensity try winter maintenance or even more intense the indoor plan

If you PM me your email, they’re doing a give 1 get 1 thing so I should be able to give you 30 days.

I just wanted to come back to this thread. I really enjoyed Join for quite a while but it seems to have lost the plot a bit lately. After a 5 hour 83 mile gravel race this weekend, it prescribed a day off and then 2 hours of threshold intervals. I’ve been using TR train now since the race to recover with easier efforts.

Same, although I think I’m just ready for the off-season. I have a couple of more weeks of LSRF, and hoping for one more event but life keeps getting in the way (which is totally fine, just reality) … and the backyard fence won’t repair itself, despite how much I ride.

How did the gravel race go ? How well did Join prepare you for it ?

And what was the event qualified as (A, B or C race)? After my A event I got a message from join congratulating me and telling me to take a short time off but not too long

It was a B race as a tune up for Big Sugar in 4 weeks.

It turned into a survival event, there were several stretches of double track that required hike a bike for a bit, of 50+ starters only 11 of us finished, I came home in 7th. I was not impressed with JOIN compared to TR but hard to say if it was just life being busy or the training that made the difference

Did you sort the 280 watt issue ?

So why are you still using it ? You don’t like it, it doesn’t work for you, and hardware wise you have issues, if I was having all the issues that you are having and know what i want, I’d self coach with Trainer Day if cost was a issue
