My V.O2max PL is just 1.2 after a few months just running. This morning TN recommended me a PL 7.6 VO2max workout…went outside for a 3h ride. IF was 0,77 with a few short sprints…this is my first longish ride in about 5 months, and after it still TN recommends Gendarme +4 PL 5,9 VO2max for today. Doesn’t seem right to me.
TR has done some changes where it looks at your fitness beyond PL numbers. I couldn’t find the link to the post but the suggested jump in a Vo2 workout is normal.
You should give it a go, you should be able to complete it.

@Kendogz161 is correct!
TrainerRoad now looks beyond just Workout Levels, factoring in your fitness, recent training, and overall trends to pick the right workout for you that day.
When a workout looks different from what you might expect based on past recommendations, it’s reflecting a broader view of your current fitness and capabilities. This supports consistent, high-quality training, and that’s exactly what helps you get faster.
Give the workout a go and let us know how it goes!
I was curious about this myself. Looking at my calendar, I’m obviously being given a back off week (nothing other than short & easy endurance rides) , but TrainNow wanted to give me a pretty intense vo2MAX workout today.
So I gave it a go and my VO2max PL went from 1.2 to 7.0. Moreover RPE was just moderate. In my case l have been out of the bike for about 5 months so my ftp went down by about 100w. However I have been running and maintained my aerobic capacity. Based on the current bike ftp high PL endurance, tempo and threshold workouts were easy to moderate. Probably TR AI thought l was also capable of nailing a high PL Vo2max workout, which l did !
Nice work @Jose_Manuel! ![]()
Noiceeeee!
