It looks to me like if you have exactly the “classic” 28 weeks, it will give you the “classic” plan design: SSB 1, SSB 2, Build, Specialty. If you have more time than that, it then adds extra work, and it adds extra work in a particular pattern.
I’m sure this depends on a variety of factors, but here’s a short example for Intermediate experience, Mid volume, targeting Rolling Road Race.
At 28 weeks, it’s SSB 1, SSB 2, Build, Specialty.
After that, it adds (up to) a block of SSB 1 in between Build and Specialty.
After that, it adds (up to) a block of Build in between the two SSBs.
So 42 weeks gets you SSB 1, Build, SSB 2, Build, SSB 1, Specialty.
Just started with Plan Builder. Its great… but I have one question…
I only have one A event this year and it’s the full distance Ironman Florida. I want to be on the best shape possible. I don’t know why, but the plan builder is assuming I have multiple A events (I only posted IM Florida) and therefore it’s prescribing me a Specialty phase at mid stage’of my training. Is it better for me to do 2 specialty phases during the year? or instead of that mid-stage specialty, would I get Faster if I repeat Base and build again mid stage? Thanks!!! @Jonathan@Nate_Pearson
The logic isn’t assuming that you have another A event. Because you have so much time (10 months) until your goal event, it set you up with a full plan of Base, Build, Specialty and then runs you through another full plan which will be truncated depending on time left - likely missing some base. The mid-plan Specialty block is correct.
We’re looking into potentially changing some logic here but for now it’s working as expected. If you want a rest week there, you can certainly manually swap some workouts. As I said to someone above, you know your body better than anyone else.
Gotcha. Wonder if skipping SSHV1 and making sure I were to get 2 build blocks would result in better outcome. Considering prior to join trainer road I was still logging 500tss weeks just low volume?
Tried scrolling thru this thread to see if this was answered already, but TL;DR’d myself…
I’m fairly new to TR, 4 and a bit months, have done SSBLV1 → Build → and now doing SSBLV2 which is about to finish. The events I’m training for are about 4 months away and I have no dates for them yet, but will guesstimate them based on previous years.
Will plan builder take that I’ve just completed a base phase into account or does it start back in SSBLV1? I guess it probably won’t matter too much as I have 4 months to get ready!
I realize that this may not be the best place to offer a suggestion for the Plan Builder (5 Rating!!!), however, I would like to be able to take a Tri specific plan, and delete the swim workouts prior to calendar import, to create a Duathalon plan of sorts. I’m training for a MTB/Fondo/Trail Race and used the Plan Builder to create a sweet training plan. My workaround was to place all the swim workouts on Mondays, but that left me to manually delete each entry for each week, all year from Feb to August. If an exclude or final plan edit could be added for something like this, that would be awesome.
I was coming here to request the same thing, I actually just want planbuilder to give me bike workouts, no swim or run. I’m training for a 70.3 in April and a full in August. I have a good grasp on the run workouts and swim workouts I want to do (and it varies from the TR run / build plans) but want the TR Wisdom for my cycling. Instead setting my events as Triathlons should I just set them to TTs?
This is a great suggestion, and something that we’d like to add in the future. You can show your support for this feature over in the official Feature Request thread by commenting +1 and enganging in the conversation:
I’m disappointed that you now cannot add a run marked as a race to the calendar, plan builder or not.
Duathlons would be useful, but they were never implemented before.
But runs were. You would mark an activity - any activity, including a run - as a race or no race. In the new way things are done, you first decide whether an activity is a race, and then pick the type from a drop down list - no runs!
I’m getting an issue trying to add a new stage race at the end of my current plan and asking the plan to be recalculated.
I can see a PUT request call to /api/plan-builder/add-race/ with an empty payload and it is failing with a 400 and message “Sequence contains no elements”.
This may have been asked and I missed it but I loaded a plan in through plan builder with an A race, 2 B races and tons of Cs. Well my A race isnt going to happen (wife decided to make plans that weekend ugh) so if I delete the A race and make one of my B races and A race will Plan Builder change the plan accordingly or do I need to delete it and and put it back in?
I took a quick look at your calendar and it appears you may have got the race added. Are you still running into a problem or are things good to go now?
@Critwannabe
Right now, a plan will only recalculate if you make a change to an already existing event (e.g. B → A). We are working on this, but for the time being I would suggest that you delete and re-add your custom plan to your calendar.
