🎉🎉🎉 Introducing Plan Builder! 🎉🎉🎉

HolyCrap!
Plan builder is the SH!T
I have been with TR forr near on 6+ years and have really enjoyed the progression and enthusiasm that every at TR has… Plan Builder, for me, is the biggest jump by far for TR. with my Grandfather pricing, and now with Plan Builder… I have access to what some local guys pay up to (minimum) $100 a month at a ‘specialist’ cycling clinic.

super excited to see how 2020 goes.
Thanks everyone at TR for your efforts, and Nate’s ongoing want to just be better and better.

I recently decided to go through with a full season with plan builder. I have a 2 week build in between base 1 and base 2 for me. My question is should I be putting a rest week somewhere in before base 2? I have a feeling that jumping right into base 2 for 6 weeks after a 2 week build is going to leave me drained.

Mid volume, general build and SSB MV if that matters.

This has to be a bug in the Plan Builder.

I have one event this year and its a Sportive on Sunday 27th September.

I selected 0-3hrs, Low Volume, Beginner.

The plan is suggesting I begin with…

6 weeks SSBLV1 and then it has 4 weeks Sustained Power Build - Low Volume.

And then 6 weeks of SSBLV2 and then 8 weeks Sustained Power Build - Low Volume.

This can’t be correct as everywhere i read on the TR forum and hear on the podcast they suggest SSB1 and then SSB2.

Quite normal with plan Builder to have some build between base phases I and II when there’s to much time.

as a beginner???
Seriously?

A lot of post in this thread mentioning the same. My plan also had it. I think it’s a good way to break the routine of doing 12weeks in a row with base if you have extra time to fill in the middle of base some build instead of extending base further or having to many build weeks in a row latter on the plan.

Thanks for the info but i think in this instance it has to be a bug.

Going with a tss increase of 33 from the base to the build as opposed to the standard 10-12 increase has to be incorrect. Especially as a beginner.

OK someone from the staff can answer if it’s a bug or not.

Woooooow! 1000 posts on such a recent thread. Is there a prize for posting that post?

A years membership of TR to you

Don’t get hung up on TSS. You are still doing the same volume (hours) of work, but at the end of SSB1 you should be stronger and if your plan is like mine you aren’t doing a ramp test before the intermediary build phase so it is based on your test 6 weeks earlier which should be quite doable.

Plus Coach Chad’s brain doesn’t have bugs.

It has me doing a ramp test.

Interesting. Maybe because I only have 2 weeks of build in between is why I’m not getting the test. Anyway, you can always substitute a another build workout for the ramp test if you don’t feel like retesting at that time. Or do it as prescribe and see how it goes, you might surprise yourself.

Thanks for the help. I’m 55 this year and know for a fact that my ageing body :sleepy: will not be able to cope with 6 weeks of base 1 and then a ramp test and 4 weeks of build. I might need to just go with a manually created plan if the plan builder is correct

This is the correct logic for a low experience plan with that much time between the start date and your goal event, it’s not a bug. @SSaldanha was pretty spot on. If you want to start with SSB1 right into SSB2, you could add them both to your calendar individually and then begin your custom plan after SSB2’s end date.

This is probably something that you should decide. Plan builder didn’t put in a rest week, of course, but you know your body and if you feel that you need it now or when the time comes you can always swap some workouts or push things out entirely.

Okay thanks Geoff.

Listening to the pod cast made me think they have switched up the format to SSBHV to Build and then SSBHVII. When I put my june race in the calander is has me doing SSBI and then SSBII. Should I add the 1st build prior to SSBHVII

Great tool!

Question / potential bug: I have an A event with “too much” time, so the plan builder suggest me to do SSB1–>SSB2–>Sust.PB–>SSB1–>Century Specialty. However due to the specific timing, the second SSB1 between Build and Specialty is only 5 weeks long, and the recovery week 6 gets dropped. However this leads to a situation where there are no recovery weeks for 8 weeks straight (moving directly from 5 weeks of SSB1 to Century Specialty).
As of potential issues: 1) This looks for too much stress for too long - risk of burning out and 2) No rest week before the Century Specialty ramp test, so might undertest significantly due to build up of fatigue

Is this a bug? Or is it intended as such? It seems more logical that for this second instance of SSB1, the first week would be cut-off instead of the last one. And the ramp test would then replace the first workout of this second week. (hope I’m still clear :-))

Great feature, thank you!!
