🎉🎉🎉 Introducing Plan Builder! 🎉🎉🎉

I have the same issue. We’ll bring it up to design and see what they come up with.

Suggestion: Many of the triathletes using TrainerRoad came from the running world and do road running races to sharpen their fitness. So…

1.) It would be great if, as you were progressing in whatever your specific triathlon distance plan was, you could, say, add a 5k or a 10k race along the way. When you added these the Plan Builder would shorten the longer runs and add 5k or 10K training (V02 max, Speed work), then resume the plan as scheduled. Alternatively, if you were training for a Sprint Tri, but wanted to do a half marathon, it would add some distance running to your specific plan.

2.) Approach the triathlon plans as three separate tracks that could be modified. All triathletes don’t need the same amount of swimming or running. Some needs lots more swimming at the expense of the running. It would awesome if the Plan Builder would allow adjustment of the specific tracks within the Triathlon Plans. Yes, you can do this manually, but I’d love to see a structured approach to this.

3.) Add even basic 5k-Marathon plans. There does not need to be a million different workouts, but it would be great to see TrainerRoad use the Plan Builder to add run and swim specific plans.

4.) Since it’s going to be long time until we get synced workouts, can we at least use the app to manually add workouts? Using the webpage sucks for adding run and swim workouts. Or, let us load the .fit file just for the metrics, i.e. not worrying about analytics.

Thanks for everything you guys are doing. We’re getting more value from our TrainerRoad membership as time progresses. Thanks again.

I would also love to be able to follow separate plans for triathlon training! I am currently on 70.3 MV for Bike, 70.3 HV for Runs, and custom for Swim. It would be great to at least be able to select individual volumes for the Bike and Run workouts!

Thanks Nate… I’m planning on shifting my weekend rides to longer outdoor rides to get that volume up. Is the rest / taper week issue a known problem with the builder at the moment?

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but your week leading up to your race looks good. No bug. The Chad wants you to reduce the volume but keep the intensity leading up to your A race.

There are a lot of tri things we want to do, but right now we want to get at least one sport (cycling) right before we move into running and swimming.

I think we can make it more clear which phase you are in.

When I set my plan to start in the past, it doesn’t see/pull in all of my events A/B/C. However, if I set my plan in the future it then asks me if I want to pull in my events. Is this a known bug?

Not sure. I just reported it to our test team. Thanks.

@Nate_Pearson Plan Builder seemed to work great but I noticed a 7 week stretch with no recovery week between build & base from Feb 9th & March 29th. I’m all for hard work but I’m pretty sure this will crush me! Also, the ramp tests seem to be in odd places for quite a bit of my plan. Any suggestions?

I’m not up to speed with the logic, but someone will check this out Monday.

Awesome! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. You guys rock & the product is fantastic.

Thanks Nate! I think there are a lot of triathletes around that would perhaps appreciate a feature freeze on the platform, and bringing our experience in line with the cyclist one. I cannot use the plan builder as it does not match my training needs. After updating the training plans a few years ago, no new triathlon feature has been rolled out. Given that I have been grandfathered over on the pricing plan, I do not think of switching - I find it an excellent value. However, I would think twice whether I would want to join at the new price plan.

My tri priority list would be:

  1. Export swim and running workouts to Garmin workouts
  2. Ability to use plan builder with volume choices for each of the sports

I don’t see any meaningful value in having running and swimming workouts imported and analyzed into the TrainerRoad platform. However, the above would make a significant difference in the triathlete experience.

Just one thing I noticed is that my plan didn’t start with a ramp test for base 1 but did for the start of Base 2.

Although these are my wishes, too, I’m afraid, you are asking for an almost entirely different product.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but your week leading up to your race looks good. No bug. The Chad wants you to reduce the volume but keep the intensity leading up to your A race.

Thanks for taking another look @Nate_Pearson … I see the subtle intensity reduction now on closer look… I was just expecting more of a taper. Just to be double-sure … the addition of the recovery week workouts on top of my stage race days is expected?

I think there almost needs to be a B+ race option.

I have Outlaw half 70.3 in May and Ironman Copenhagen in August. Copenhagen is my A race and what I want to build my plan around but putting outlaw 70.3 as a B race leaves me with very little taper into what will still be a very hard race. If I put Outlaw as an A as well it means that I spend most of the year doing the 70.3 plan which I don’t want to do.

I’d like to see your listed tri features also. Guess these might come someday (along with Nate’s podcast triathlon challenge) but it will take some time. Won’t derail from this threads topic any longer just to say that importing tri workouts would have the benefit of much easier calendar and TSS chart care and probably would help with regards to the thread Who has taken the plunge? (Dropped TrainingPeaks, etc.)

Really would like to hear more about the background of the changed plan progressions coming with the Plan Builder. Last podcast was a little too less for me personally.
@Nate_Pearson is often emphasizing a scientific approach or studies but with this I assume there are no ”classic” studies involved…

  • Was it more like data crunching on the TR data with some compliance metrics (if so were there filters on power source / user base / etc)?
  • Or was it more like Chad combining things he learns?

Downloading Chads brain into the Plan Builder matrix sounds funny but more background would be nice.

No past events will pull in if you set your plan start date in the past. Only future events (i.e. TODAY and later) will pull in. This was an intentional decision.
