How life can be so ironic, V02 easy, tempo not so easy . As far back as high school I could out sprint the cross country guys at the end of a mile run. Keeping up with them for the mile was hard. But the last 100 yards was easy. I loved adventure races. But running 1/2 or a full marathon over trees, up wet stream beds etc was very hard until the last 100 yards. Same with cycling. 100 miles at speed was very hard until the last few miles when I could turn up the gas. My mind loves climbing, my body hates it. My mind loves the long distances but my body only likes the last few miles. Oh well what ya gona do.

I appreciated you posting it. I’ve posted it before, but there’s usually the erg crowd who gets grumpy about it. It’s a real issue that there is a power zone with the same name as a VO2 workout.

Ive found training outside has helped massively with this problem. I can go full out on the VO2 intervals rather than be limited by the trainer power.

Sweetspot and threshold is about right for my FTP, but the VO2 stuff always feels too easy, and even more so as it becomes anaerobic and sprint work. And I wouldn’t even say I was particularly good at either. It would be interesting to know what percentage of users find that the prescribed power for the VO2 sessions is too easy. Is it 10 percent? 50 percent? 80 percent of users? It seems like a number of people are in a similar situation, but are they a loud tiny minority or actually a significant number that TR may want to consider more?
