How do you drink a bottle per hour on rides?

Yes, you can train to fuel and hydrate. I‘d start with trainer rides: make drinking (and fueling in general) a habit. Do it every single ride. Don’t skip fueling on endurance rides or so. Then it’ll be automatic — indoors and outdoors.

For me that was a huge improvement, and when I am outdoors, I do not need to closely track my fueling on outdoor rides. And when I do track my fuel intake outdoors, unless the ride is very long, I‘d be spot on.

One more thing: you wrote you fuel with Maurten. If you are having trouble drinking enough, try different things apart from Maurten or high-carb drink mixes. You might not like or be able to stomach them.
