Honor Ride for Alex Pretti – Saturday, Jan 31 (Minneapolis) – 1:30 PM rollout

Angry Catfish (Alex’s local LBS) is organizing a memorial ride for Alex Pretti.

RIders should meet at Washburn Fair Oaks Park (200 E. 24th St., Minneapolis, MN 55405). Staging starts at 1:00 PM, with a 1:30 PM rollout.

If you can’t join in person, keep an eye out for rides organized by your LBS – or consider organizing your own. I’ve also seen discussion about a potential Zwift option. Stay tuned for more, and I will update this post as I know more.

Full Instagram Post from Angry Catfish Below:

Alex was one of us, could’ve been any of us, so as we mourn, all of us can come together in unity to remember Alex for what he was. A kind and caring soul put on this earth to be the light for others. Although his light has been extinguished by this fascist regime, it hasn’t been lost. If anything, those sparks fell and ignited something in us that’s been hiding all along. We are stronger together, and they can’t take us all. We’ve gathered together a community of cyclists to remember Alex Pretti. Please join in, near or far this Saturday, 1/31 1:00 PM Central Time

We’re asking folks to host rides and come together. Bike shops and non-profits, cycling orgs and alt cycling collectives, city and rural. We are many but we stand together as one.

If you’d like to join in and gather folks together, please print the flyer and tag us on social media so we can share where your ride will take place. Files attached are courtesy of Casey Robertson of Robertson Design aka @champagne_rodman

Minneapolis joins together Angry Catfish Bicycle, Bonesaw Cycling Collective, GenoSack, Melanin In Motion, The Price Brothers, Unsanctioned Ride group and others. We hope folks from all over join together in unity as well!

Thank you for sharing @koalb I was going to do the same today as well! For those not local to Minneapolis (guessing 99.9% of the rest of you?), there are MANY shops and cycling clubs putting on solidarity rides at the same time. Give ACF a follow on social media, they’re cross-posting known rides to get more reach.

I already committed to being out on Lake Harriet for another protest/fund raiser this Saturday. If the ride goes near the lake, make some noise!

It would be great if @Nate_Pearson @Jonathan or others from TR could share on social media for greater reach! If you’re worried that speaking up might damage your brand, consider that a brand that stays silent while its own community is hurting isn’t one people want to ride with in the long run. Well-known voices in the cycling community have been speaking up, don’t get left behind.

I ‘m so heartened that my fellow TR users have stood up for Alex with this tribute. I hope we have a ride where I live. Kudos to all of you! You have made me smile during this very dark time.

There is no official departure from ACF, the park is the meeting spot
We will start talking about 1:15

Hope to depart at 1:30pm (bring a bell on your bike we will be ringing this before we leave 10times)

8.3 mile ride to VA community Center.
Closing remarks, open mic, snacks provided by community partners u/northerncoffeeworks u/glamdolldonuts u/surlybikes u/atuvava u/bakerswifempls u/duckduckcoffeempls and more

After the VA, friends u/vennbrewing offered open space to folks to gather and talk more, albeit a little more warm, likely. They also said $2 off drinks with a helmet for folks who partake.

We have a friend Dan, who has provided thousands of Peaceful Observer vests, for everyone to have if they’d like. He’s just asking for a donation of what ya can.

Rules, take care of one another.
We will not be policing language during the open mic so if yer thinking children, keep that in mind
We have Marshalls, medics, and security

We are one, we are the streets, we ride together, we stand together. We are revolution.

Great ride with large turnout - likely about about 200+ people at the start, seem like many more mid-ride.

The ride in Minneapolis today had thousands. It was incredible. People came out of their homes to cheer, people stopped and got out of their cars to cheer, and based on the reports I have seen there was only ONE encounter with an impatient driver. At the beginning of the ride it literally took an hour for the entire group to pass through an intersection. Faith in humanity restored, I just hope it lasts…
