Keep it up man.

I was lucky as I got started with physiop and an occupational therapist RIGHT away.

I even had someone come join me at the pool the first couple sessions to ensure I was doing the rehab exercises properly. It was great.

Getting on that sooner than later really helped a lot with reducing the losses in mobility and strength, even if only by a little.

thank you for your return yes I also think faster the rehabilitation by listening to his body the mind has a lot of importance I see the specialist again on February 16 and I would make a return of my evolution

I had the same injury in February of last year (2021). I have a nice titanium intermedullary nail running down my left femoral channel, nowā€¦and no, carbon fiber wasnā€™t an option. I asked. (Luckily my ortho is a cycling friend.)

I was on my feet the next day, on a walker. I spent a month on the walker, then another month with a nice custom titanium cane. (Thanks to another cycling friend.)

I was able to spin pretty much the day I got off the walker, but not very effectively. But, given twice a week PT sessions from a right b*stard of a therapist, I was riding the trainer after a couple more weeks.

After I got off the cane, I rode an e-bike for a month and was on my regular bike afterwards, with no real ill effects. The primary obstacle for me was atrophy in my glute meds and psoas, which I am told was due to the muscular dissection that occurs during surgery. I am continuing to do strength work to build those muscles, but Iā€™ve had little pain or otherwise since about 12 weeks out.

To the OP: Good luck! You got this!

ok thank you for your return i will listen to my body

Here is the rehabilitation progressing well I do 4 times a week to the physio and now home trainer 30 min very light 50 w no pain I also try to walk 2 to 3 km which hurts me when I sit too long to leave again otherwise it is going well for the moment after 5 weeks after the operation

Wow! Aggressive rehab. Youā€™re already walking?? Iā€™m still using a walker and only my left leg.

Iā€™m at 11wks now. Iā€™m still non-weight bearing. Although, I do put some weight on it when showering.

I was having some pain in the groin area when activating the psoas. Iā€™m pretty sure that is related to the lesser trochanter piece. It seems to be better, but I havenā€™t tested it lately.

Good to hear youā€™re recovering and in better spirits :+1:

Courage I listen to my body I still limp and when I sit too long and I get up it hurts me slightly no pain on the bike on the home trainer I do physio 4 times a week
I see the doctor again on February 15 for a radio control and to see the evolution of my displacement of the lesser trochanter
listen to your body my friend and it will be fine, sometimes my morale is low I was super active in my work and the sport always competitive and this sudden stop with a very good physical condition to see me in the current state is not easy every day i will come back stronger
keep me informed of your progress if I can help morally

I had 14wk checkup this AM. X-rays looked very good. I was really worried about piece of lesser trochanter that broke off, but it appears to be growing back vs floating away. The big/main break is hard to discern. It has healed well. Doc has given me all clear for full weight bearing and PT. I put my foot down and tried to walk for the first time and surprisingly I could, albeit a bit stiff and requires concentration to not limp. I will try the turbo tomorrow. The work begins now!

Thatā€™s excellent news. My lesser trochanter at 14wks (2wks ago) was good but not fully consolidated.

These past two weeks, I have been riding the trainer and doing rehab. I have worked up to easy 1hr rides on the trainer. Def not pushing anywhere near 90% of previous FTP  Walking is a work in progress. Leg strength is coming back quickly. After 14wks of non-weight bearing, getting to move again these past 2wks has been painful and awesome!

edit: and yes, getting up after sitting (too long) is the worst

Touchwood I am still at that bouncy stage too and have never broken anything (to my knowledge anyway) and I had chemotherapy a couple of years ago which is supposed to reduce bone density. Lol, an off not long after I finished was psychologically good in helping me get closer towards normality :joy: I guess some folk who break things are just unlucky :exploding_head:

@Bulldozer How is your recovery?

Itā€™s been 11wks since I was cleared to put weight on my leg and start rehab. It took 2wks to get rid of the walker/zimmer and about 6wks to walk normal. Iā€™m riding the trainer most days and w/out really trying Iā€™m probably at about 90% pre-accident. Iā€™m still doing some rehab exercises and going for long walks.

Are you riding outside? Iā€™m still not ready, still scared. I canā€™t even get on a regular old bike, you know like a granny bike. Not sure what to do.

Hello
Iā€™m sorry for responding so late
I resumed racing in May already with good rankings and a stair-climbing podium is the most difficult
otherwise I am very satisfied with my recovery I think the bike will help me a lot for the recovery

Hello everyone. I had the same fracture 5 weeks ago. I had the first physiotherapy session the day after my surgery at the hospital. I was hospitalized for 4 days. From the day I left the hospital I started walking with the walker without putting weight on my left leg. This week I started walking on crutches. The worst thing was the days in the hospital and realizing that I was not going to be able to meet my goals this year that was an ultra-distance race in Chile in november, but with a positive mind I am already registered for next years race. 2 days ago I had my first check up with my Dr. my bones havenā€™t welded yet but he says he sees the improvement including the lesser trochanter And he hopes that in 6 more weeks (10 in total) I can start bearing weight on my left leg. I already recovered about 70% of my motion range of my left leg. Thank you for sharing your experiences, I see that everyone has done well in recovery. I am aware that it will be a long process but I hope that every week will be better.

Sucks to see, but know that there is hope! And wow, you got two screws up top, bonus!

The long term non-weight bearing definitely put a hitch in your step. Everything gets weak and stiff. I donā€™t know if it was mostly due to my doc being conservative or the nature of the break, but it was 14wks non-weight bearing for me. Iā€™m not 100%, but I blame myself. I reached a certain point and kinda slacked off. Iā€™m back on track now.

All I can say is be patient and stick w/the doctorā€™s plan! The healing and associated sensations, good and bad, come at their own pace. Itā€™s definitely not linear. Sometimes, youā€™ll make a big jump and other times, youā€™ll feel youā€™re going backwards. Again, patience!
