Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG - Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)

I had posted about my recovery a few places and I missed updating here.

Short version: about 4 1/2 months post surgery now, and things had continue to go well. Also did a 12-week rehab program and I was cleared for all activity/effort by the surgeon as of mid-March (although my cardiologist is a bit more conservative in what he’d like me to do/not do). Like you, one of my bigger concerns was sternal healing. My PT said the bone has healed well but the wires might be moving a bit. I’ve pretty much put that out of mind now.

Been back in the gym for a while now doing strength work; love pulling/pushing the sled, kettlebell work and back to doing hex bar deadlifts and Monday it was 3 sets of 3 at 255#. On the bike following a TR plan builder LV Pol base 1 and 2, and just started the master’s LV base 3. Did some 30/30 intervals yesterday and felt good on those. Longest ride to date has been just over 40mi; more time constraint than capability. Targeting a full century on the road mid June.

Biggest challenge continues to be figuring out RPE/HR/Pwr implications of the beta blocker (25mg metoprolol 2x/day) my cardiologist wants me on to keep my BP in check. I’m beginning to learn that when I work out relative to timing of my doses makes a difference.

Modern medicine is pretty amazing indeed.

edit: also still trying to assess how my metrics while on the beta blocker might be affecting RLGL. Seems every time I do what I think is a moderate workout the next day is flagged as yellow. May be correlation, not causation though…
