Gravel bike upgrade…

I currently have a 2023 Orbea Terra. It is an aluminium frame which I have since fitted GRX Di2 825 2x to and I have two sets of wheels.

I am debating getting one of these:

I would sell the old bike so the cost wouldn’t be massive (think I could get £1300-1500 for it). So is it worth it? It would be a carbon frame, UDH with 13 speed 1x with room for bigger tyres than the current model.

I really like my current bike but would like to update the frame. The other choice would be just to buy the frame and swap the components onto it. It will be used for gravel, commuting and general riding. I don’t have any big plans for major road rides but could keep the road wheels I have at the moment in any case just might need some chain ring options.

Just mulling it over really but interested in people’s thoughts.

Those are all perks/upgrades and getting a new bike is awesome. You have my blessing! I did the frame set and move over parts thing on my current bike, but it was still like a whole new bike so that option is good if you can get ahold of what you want. Either way, sounds fun.

The new xplr 13sp group is a nice upgrade, particularly the braking. Not sure the price of the frame only, but then you’ll need to buy some parts to sell the old bike if you are stripping parts for the new one. You won’t get anything for a used aluminum frame unless it’s on a working bike (in my experience).

And I’d personally consider a lauf with a similar build for less $, but I’m a biased card carrying member of the Lauf fan club these days, so take that for what it’s worth. More tire clearance and suspension fork for less $ (depending on what the lauf costs in your country I guess).

With taxes and shipping to the U.K. that comes to $4700 so would be near enough the exact same price when you convert back to £.

I wouldn’t sell the frame - I would try selling the bike first then if there is no interest then sell the group set and wheels. Like you say the frame won’t get a lot.

I think you have been out in the heat too long.

Get the new bike. Everything will be new. No wear at all. Plus you will be faster on a new toy.
