Out of curiosity, has anyone in Southern California done this race? I have it on my calendar, but have no idea what to expect. Looks to be a beautiful ride.
If anyone has done it, do you have any recommendations for tires (ie. wide/narrow, slick/knobby)? I hope to see some fellow TR’s out there! Cheers
I’ve not done the event but a few of us rode the course a few weeks after. It’s a super nice, non-technical, course. I’m really not the person to advise on tyre choices but here’s a few pictures of the terrain on course if you want to make your own mind up. Bonus of me desperately trying, and failing, to remedy the massive nail that went through tyre and rim meaning I had to hitch a ride back to Temecula
Hey there, the courses typically change every year, but the terrain remains the same. When I did it two years ago, there was a single track section best suited for mountain bike, but I think they have since removed everything like that due to complaints. As for tire recommendations, I would recommend knobbies at least 45 mill wide. As is typical in the area you can expect some loose over hard, some bumpy fire roads, and some sandy sections. Might be cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon and windy.
