Looking to see if anyone has experience with going from tacx (or something similar) power source to using Garmin power pedals as the power source for indoor rides. What was your experience adjusting to the switch? Did you find a drastic difference to the watts? I’ve been procrastinating changing knowing it will likely has a less than ideal result on my watts. I’ve been having great success with my FTP going from 171 to 194 in a few months and trending for 205 in another 11 days. I’m worried I won’t be able to maintain the watts and it will crush my ego and soul haha. And tips or thoughts? Thanks
You probably would need to test to see if there is any wattage differences between the two. I would guess that there would be. I like having the same power meter riding indoors as outdoors. BTW, your fitness does not change regardless of the power meter reading.
I had a Tacx Neo 1 when I bought some Garmin Vector 3s, sometime around 2018.
If I recall correctly the V3s read a little higher, around 10 watts, than the Neo. I’ve since replaced the Neo with. Zwift Ride/Kickr Core 2 setup, and I see a similar difference there also. This is an anecdotal view though, I didn’t dual record and compare the data.
It’s enough to be a problem, especially for the more intense workouts.
As an aside, the biggest difference was going from a Stages LH only PM to the two sided vectors. It turns out I have a 2% to 5% left leg dominance, I still haven’t matched those Stages power PRs!
I just did this and it was about like 2-3 watts difference for my Garmin Rally 200 and my Neo 2. I’m assuming some drivetrain loss, but I have not double recorded to check. The pedals being the slightly higher. I may mess around with adjusting them done, but 2-3 watts could just be a calibration on my part.
