Godzone Adventure Racing

I’ve recently discovered Adventure Racing a.k.a. Expedition Racing, via https://godzoneadventure.com/

Curious to hear the forum’s thoughts on Orienteering / Rogaining / Adventure Racing! Anyone here train for the sport and/or following this year’s Godzone?

I used to race adventure races regularly in the 200x years. The most fun I’ve had outside in the woods, mountains, lakes, and rivers. Unfortunately, the arrival of the obstacle course races drew the adventure-curious types away from the races the promoters lost their audience - at least for the sub-24 hour races in which I participated.

My training was…unscientific. Somewhat close to triathlon training, e.g. two sports daily during the week. More than two sports and more hours on the weekend. Really just tried to be moving and exerting myself on foot, in the gym, and on the bike for 6+ hours on Saturday and Sunday. As I said, unscientific or structured but fun.

I did practice plotting points, reading topo maps, and counting steps. Navigation skills really, really help. You spend less time wandering (while your brain is foggy from exhaustion, thirst, and hunger).

That reminds me. All of my races were pre-carbo bomb fueling era. I know now I was not carrying enough to eat or drink.

I had not heard of Godzone. Looks awesome.
