Glasses and time trial/triathalon helmets

I’ve been doing Eddy-style time trials; the TT bug has bitten, and now I’m going all in. I’m near-sighted, so generally wear prescription glasses while riding. I CAN see well enough that I COULD ride without any glasses, but I do prefer the clarity that they give me. I’m unable to wear contacts, so they’re not an option for me. I just picked up a TT helmet, and my cycling glasses won’t fit under the helmet/visor combo. Do I go with just regular glasses, get something like rec-specs, or just go without?

LASIK?

Why can’t you wear contacts?
I’m sure there is a helmet that will fit glasses otherwise

Im allergic to contacts, and ive looked into Lasik and.it isnt an option.

I think there’s a good chance you can find a set of sport oriented prescription frames that would fit under the visor. That’s what I’ve worn for many years rather than cycling specific glasses.

Any suggestions on brand?

IDK. There are so many brands. One place to look on line to get an idea is SportRx. I generally find something at my optometrist’s office, but just about any brand you can think of makes prescription compatible sport frames. I’ve had a number of different brands of frames over the years but have Nike frames currently. Suitable frames are often identified as sunglasses.

I think your optometrist can help you find some glasses that will work. Here’s where you can scan the sponsor list from your regional events (triathlons, bike races, etc) and maybe find an optometrist that is more familiar with your sport.

Take your bike and helmet down to their office and try out some sample frames.

You’re an adult @Redleg94 so you can make your own decisions but I’m hoping you’ll cross ‘ride without glasses’ off the list. Either way, GLHF!

This kind of helmet can apparently be worn with glasses. I don’t know if they’d steam up though riding at speed!

I’ve never worn a TT helmet, but my experiences trying to wear glasses under goggles or in automotive helmets have always lead to lots of fogging.

Just race without the visor and with your cycling glasses. Surely this will fit? A lot of the common tt helmets that are known aerodynamic ‘safe’ helmets are negligible difference with and without visor.

I found an older pair of Oakley Flak XL with transition lenses that fit under the visor without touching. I do need to get a new set of lenses for my current prescription.
