Gear Bags for Race Day

have you tried those different sized “packing cubes”…they don’t compress as advertised in my experience but ended up being GREAT to separate the kits out in my big duffel. can find on amazon

Resurrecting an old thread, but I always struggle when I go on a weekend with the family where I get to ride my bike a bit. I’m currently using a one-compartment duffel bag, but find it hard to toss in a helmet, shoes, etc. for cycling, and then toss in my other stuff. Even when using smaller stuff bags everything always gets mixed up and I find myself digging for that one arm warmer…

Ideally, it could also safely hold an iPad or small laptop… Any recommendations?

So far I have:
zoo new ultra-tri-bag
Thule round trip duffel bag
scicon duffel bag

I use a big osprey backpack. For organizing, I use a handful of labeled grocery bags. It’s nice because I can ride with it to local races or I can ride it to a Zipcar for longer distances.

I’ve been using the Thule Round Trip bag for a couple years and love it.

Not sure about the Ipad*, but I resurrected my old zoggs triathlon “transition” bag now I’m cycle racing again. Doubt my model is still available, but holds the helmet in a front compartment, and I use the bottom “wetsuit” waterproof bit for shoes and/or wet and dirty gear. I then use packing cubes to put my various bits of kit in. I just have cheap ones that I brought for going on holiday. I take at least a spare of everything to races plus arm warmers, gloves etc.

*for my work device, and commuting on the bike, I have a hard shell zip sleeve that I got on Amazon. It would fit in the bag above if I had reason.

As mentioned up thread, the pedal industries bags are quite nice. They have multiple sizes. Only downside is that they don’t have a padded sleeve for a laptop/tablet.

Ikea make nice blue ones for about 50p.

True  - they lack compartmentalisation though…

unfortunately I’m in Europe, which makes getting these a bit harder…

I have the Thule Round Trip and absolutely love it. Carries everything I need (and more) and feels very well made.
My wife liked my Thule so much that she actually bought one to use to carry the kids clothes for weekend trips away.

For a cheaper, non fancy option I use an REI duffel bag. I forgot exactly how big mine is but it can easily fit helmet, kit, shoes etc. I use it for my cycling gear when I do an overnight (hotel, not bike packing) trip with another bag for my non cycling stuff. They have multiple size options and I"ve always found a duffle style better than a backpack for loading and unloading

the problem with duffel bags is that I always end up hunting for stuff, everything gets mixed when not using some form of packing cubes or ‘sub-bagging’…

I’m adding the Orca transition bag to my list:
Orca Transition Bag 70L
zoot new ultra-tri-bag
Thule round trip duffel bag
scicon duffel bag

US only?:
MountainSmith cycling bag
Pedal Industries Raceday

I use a Castelli Race Rain Bag which is great!
