Garmin said it doesn’t need to be torqued to 34 like previous versions. But I definately should give it a try. After reading everyone’s responses I tried to loosen mine to see how tight it was and with a bit of strength (stepping on it) I relitavely easily loosed mine. So I’ve just re-greased it and tightened it like I’ never have before!! Hopefully numbers will be a bit more accurate. I’ll try to find a shop with a torque spanner. So far I haven’t had any luck!
When calibrating on your head unit, do you put your left pedal at 6 o’clock?
Reset angles can be found on the garmin connect app under devices. Make sure the app is connected to your pedal via Bluetooth.
I can’t show any further because I’m nowhere near my pedals but under “general settings” you should be able to “reset angles” and calibrate if you want to do that also. You only need to reset angles when moving pedals to a different bike!
Thanks, didn’t know you can make angle reset in the app. Would definitely give it a try.
I actually thought you mean performing the static torque test.
I couldn’t really find the angle setting today but I found that there is a firmware update for the pedals which addresses a couple of the problems I’ve had. I suppose I should use the app more often. I usually zero the pedals with my head unit.
Try checking the settings of the power meter on your wahoo head unit. I don’t have a wahoo head unit so
I can’t help much, sorry. The firmware update should help!
Interesting regarding firmware, my Vector 3’s are at v3.80. I was under the impression they were the same components underneath the pedal bodies, mine have been swapped to the xc bodies.
I don’t have a Wahoo either. What I wanted to say is, that I haven’t really used the app since I use my head unit to zero my power meters.
You mentioned reset angle should be done in the app and I can’t find such setting there.
Hmm I’m pretty sure whatever head unit you have should have a settings option for the pedals where you enter the crank length and can reset the angles. I thought it was in the app.
DCRainmaker suggests resetting the install angles when you move cranksets. The option is in the Garmin Edge Menu for the device. I have not seen the option in Garmin Connect on my iPhone.
Did a fun experiment last night. I was moving the pedals around, and instead of using my torque wrench I put them on to what felt like as tight as I could get em. Then I took out the torque wrench to see how far off I was…right side was bang on, left was a good quarter turn too loose.
Moral of the story: its worth getting a torque wrench and crowfoot if you plan on moving these around alot, as you might be way off with your tightness.
Is it a known fact that having them not torqued to spec affects their accuracy vs it just being general guidance to make sure they’re tight? If they’re slightly under torqued or over torqued does it make a big difference?
I have one pedal wrench from Lezyne and one from Park Tool and they can’t be used together with a torque wrench. To do this I‘d need another adapter and a larger torque wrench (10-60…80 Nm), not really sure either if the investment is worth it just to be able to mount one pedal.
They makes sense. My understanding is they self-correct quickly, however I reset my Rally XCs when I change cranks just based ob Ray’s recommendations in his review.
I want to follow up on this and say THANK YOU. I know this should have been obvious to me, but the solution was changing shoes. I did some major surgery on my Recon’s and thought for sure I had tons of clearance, but I was still getting squeaking and nothing was fixing it (new cleats, old cleats, more surgery, lubing pedals and cleats). After your comment, I tried them with my Shimano winter boots and zero squeak. I bought some Shimano XC shoes and have had zero squeak with zero surgery. It was an expensive conversion with the Assioma, the Xpedo, and now, new shoes, but I’m super happy and about to sell my Garmin pedals as a result. Thanks for the nudge!!
Has anyone had any issues with breaking the XC pedal body or is it just my luck?
I’ve had these since late Jan. Probably ride mtb only once or twice per week since. I’m completely new to mtb so I ride pretty chill and I’m 65kg so i wouldn’t say I’m particularly abusive to these.
Never had a pedal break on me before! You can see it cracked clean off where the adjustment nut is
Wow! Hope you are still in warranty. I’m just shy of 90 kgs and have had no issues (gravel/road/trainer). I know DesFit put them thru their paces. Hope Garmin takes good care of you.
