After a pile of firmware updates, and not seeing BT PM serial number in FIT file, this past week I did a full back, delete from iPhone Bluetooth and delete from Connect app. Then on device on full reset/delete and after coming back up re-par with Connect and it offered to restore the pages/settings. Painless. The full back was not needed. Not counting the back to computer, took about 5 or 10 minutes. Connected PM via ANT+ this time and no dropouts on ANT+ (very minor but I was OCD about it, and the reason for switching to BLE which had zero PM dropouts).
Iād first drill into the Radar sensor and tap connect or something.
Thatās what youāre seeing above. The result is that it says āsensor foundā, but there is no sensor listed.
delete the light sensor and the radar sensor, and try pairing again. Then full reset/delete. Something weird is going on.
Yeah. Just praying I donāt have to do the full reset. Letās see if anyone else has solved it.
if you already havenāt, try the Garmin forums
I put search all and the varianin apiring mode and didnāt had a any issues with the rapar, running latest fw on both
Bit the bullet and did the reset. It worked, but the true good news is that while it deleted my activity profiles, the cloud remembered them and I reapplied, so the only device I had to add was the Varia, which worked! ![]()
yes, that is what I tried to say above. 5-10 minutes max. In my case I didnāt restore sensors, and manually added them.
Happy you got it resolved.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Is it the original Roval Rapide GPS mountā¦.Looking sweetā:pinched_fingers:![]()
For anyone in the market this unit has a giant flaw which ultimately made me sell. The Garmin Varia, eat/drink, gear limit, and all system alerts are not loud enough at max volume. This has been discussed on the Garmin forum since a year ago without resolution, anything past about 15mph the wind noise just blocks out all of the sound and renders all of the alerts useless. The thing is at the same speed the bell is loud and crisp, so itās just a programming issue that they seem to not care to resolve, rather than a hardware issue of the speaker being too quiet. I do have some hearing loss in my left ear but still with my 1030 I never missed a Varia alert (and everyone in the group ride could hear them too), I could even hear my gear limit beep past 35mph on a descent.
I came from a 1030+ and was so used to having the loud beep warn me about cars behind me that I came to rely on it rather than swiveling my head. With the 1050 I had so many close calls with cars passing me where I couldnāt hear the alerts at all. I know itās ultimately my responsibility to be aware but this is a huge miss for a $700 flagship product. I made it through 4 rides and ended up ordering a 1040, the 1050 is super nice but definitely very much a nice to have that shouldnāt have this kind of flaw IMO
Iām not trying to invalidate other peopleās experience, but for me personally, I can hear the alerts above 15mph and in wind, even though I donāt have great hearing. It could certainly be louder, but I can almost always hear it.
I do have an issue where occasionally the TP WOD doesnāt show up on the Home Screen and I have to dig and find it in the Training menu, which is a PITA if your coachās naming scheme starts a bunch of workouts with the same first words.
Also, it occasionally detects my trainer PM before my crank one, even if Iām on the āRoadā profile. It asks me if I want to switch to āTrainerā, I say no, but it does it anyway, and I have to wait until Iām far enough away for it to switch back to the bikeās PM.
Lastly, I donāt like the way the hazard reporting works. I love the idea, but when I click hazard, it pops up a couple icons for me to choose what the hazard is, and I canāt make out what the icons are. I kind of feel like it should just be āhazardā, full stop. It doesnāt matter whether itās a pothole or a dead animal, all I need to know is āthereās something coming up that might be a problem, keep your eyes openā. I also donāt like how when someone reports a hazard, a small icon takes over the bottom left of the screen until I get far enough away from it.
Those are the only problems I can think of, for me.
Sorry it didnāt work out for you. Thatās a big investment to end up disappointed. In general, I love mine and itās a big step up from the 1030+ that I had before. The battery life is fantastic.
Iām glad youāre able to use yours without issue, it really is a nice unit outside of my maybe isolated issue. My buddy has a 1050 and I had the same problem with his so def not a hardware defect in mine. Iād say I hear the alerts maybe 20% of the time, maybe I can place some blame on my Madone for making me ride too fast ![]()
Of course I could have also tried to work with Garmin support for a few weeks, maybe get a replacement unit, but I feel like Iād end up in the same place but more annoyed and just put off from Garmin. Iām excited for my 1040 and learned my lesson not to buy new tech.
I use a 1050. Have Varia alerts on and people in group rides comment and make jokes about it constantly chirping.
So no issues with sound or volume in my experience. Bell works great too.
Eye watering cost is my personal issue with it however.
Yeah to be honest Iām envious because I do really like the unit but itās just a deal breaker. I had my last ride with it today and maybe 20% of the time Iād hear the alert, and the faster you go /windier it is, the worse the problem for me. I got mine for $525 so I didnāt even lose money selling but still a bummer since I was excited for a new shiny thing
Back to a 1040 with the 1050 software and trusty beeper for me
Yea I dunno what to say besides Iām happy it works for you. I had my last ride with it today and had the same problems. Back to a 1040 which has all of the new software but with a trusty beeper. Should have just kept my 1030 plus but got upgradeitis haha
But it makes sense. The sensors are in a pool, not setup per profile, as I remember it. And I deleted the āINDOORā profile ritualistically anyway, and setup the other 2 with the same features. Profiles seemed to unnecessarily complicate using the Edge. I had to make sure that the right profile was selected to get āfeaturesā like GPS, etc. (Donāt know how it happened but lost all the telemetry from a huge ride because of wrong profile
)
The profiles Iām talking about were per bike not indoor outdoor etc.
You had road(edit) bike, this knew your road power meter, road cadence sensor road speed sensor if you had them. It stored a wheel circumference and worked as an odometer for each bike. It made it easier for apps that you used to track gear to know what bike you used and when so that you could know miles on a chain or tires etc.
This would not have any impact on telemetry as GPS just worked for every bike profile because that was in the edge not the bike.
The current system of indoor/road/gravel/mtb etc is what would cause the problems you describe, not specific bike profiles.
