Fed up with SIDI's look but in need of wide shoes ( Lake)

Just length is what I recall but should be explicit in their sizing guide

I have Lake shoes. I love them so far (have had them since January). My bike store made a custom insole for me, too, so that probably helps with the fit.

+1 on bonts - can get wide or double wide sizes

I need wide as I have wide feet and a mortons neuroma on the left foot. Went to Giro and specialized. Mainly the Giros in a mountain and road unless there will be a lot of hike a bike and then its the sepecialized

it is indeed, thanks. I was suggestd to write them an email with my measures and current shoes, it looks like they are eager to respond.

  • Do you need wide shoes (wide allover or high volume) or more simply wide toebox shoes?
  • Do you really want to choose shoes based on looks (not pannolato, whatever that is)?

IMO shoes are a personal journey and there’s no substitute to good ol’ fashioned brick and mortar stores where you can try them at least on a soft surface and see what they feel like.
Both walking/running and cycling shoes for me have to have an anatomical toebox - i.e. shaped for actual human feet, not some idealized bunion-shaped alien feet that designers think looks cooler and zero consideration for basic biomechanical needs.

There aren’t many brands that fit the bill: Bont, Lake, some models by Specialized and the odd model from Nortwave, Shimano. I’ve had Bont Helix (good fit after heat molding, bad construction and QC for the price), Shimano midrange (too narrow a toebox leading to hotspots and numbness), Northwave Extreme RR circa 2018-19 (good construction and QC, decent toebox, mediocre boa-wannabe system, their newer high-end models have narrower toeboxes so beware) which I still use on and off and I’m now on Specialized S-Works Torch for which I was fitted with Retül at a flagship store. The Torch are easily the best fitting and better constructed cycling shoes I’ve seen. And buying them at the store where I got to be fitted, try different models and different insoles was well worth the premium over buying online.
Never got to try Lake but I hear good things from like-minded people and they have a few models that seem to tick all the boxes.

Another vote for Bonts: they are indeed very roomy and come in tons of sizes, including wide, extra wide and Asian fit. I have wide feet as well and am super happy. Plus, they are very inexpensive for what they are, I got the Riot+ MTB, and they are almost as stiff as my S-Works 7 that cost 2–2.5x.

Get in touch with customer support when it comes to sizing. When I told them I had my S-Works in 43 Wide, the support tech immediately recommended 44 Wide. His recommendation was spot-on.

I am on my thrid pair of Bonts and second pair of Bont Vaypor wide. The only issue is the dial loosened up, but that is replaceable and not exaggerating that is after ~30,000 miles. It would take a lot for me to not buy Bont. I struggled with pain for years before finding the right shoe. Finding the right shoe made such a huge difference for me. They make an incredible product.

Out of curiosity, how do their Vaypor and their Riot+ shoes compare? The Vaypors are about 2x the price and I was wondering what you are getting for that …

On a side note: Did you look at Gaerne cycling shoes? Italian brand, they have a wide option too.
