Feature Question/Request: Affirm Compliance

When I complete a workout outdoors, how about a check box to say that any pauses were incidental and not because I couldn’t complete the workout? Would that help the AI make better predictions?

I would say not, because you didn’t actually complete the workout as described.

It doesn’t really matter the reason why, you either complied with the power/duration targets or didn’t, the reason why you didn’t is immaterial at that point.

the workout rating should capture if it was too intense etc

I probably didn’t explain well. What I mean is, let’s say the workout is endurance and has like 3 x 15 at certain power and you have to stop a couple of times briefly at a light. Those weren’t failure points, but if the AI takes those as failure points, that’s bad.

That’s true, there’s a difference with the reason why compliance is low, but from reading other posts the AI takes account of the work you did, so even if you where prescribed 15min intervals, but you actually completed say 3x5mins with 20/30sec breaks you still didn’t complete the 15min interval.

You could actually decouple your outside workout file and just mark it as completed and then rate it, that way you’d get the result you are looking for.

I guess this exact issue is one of the reasons why work out levels v2 for outside workouts never worked, and why there is still the issue with outside workouts, it must be what 5/6 years that TR have been attempting to grade outside workouts without success!

What I’ve found in the last week is that matched or not the prediction goes down by the same amount, so I’m not sure it’s the compliance anyway, so maybe that’s a positive?

That’s an interesting point

Who knows!

But I liked your initial thinking on this

Yeah. I think it could be like having a conversation with a live coach, only with AI. A relatively brief back and forth on how it went and how I felt and what I think might be good going forward. You can already do that in some general purpose AIs like ChatGPT…

@Yep I see where you are getting at with this one

But even if we had that option the system is always looking at the actual power data. So it would be a make me feel better about my compliance sort of feature, hehe.

Outside workouts are hard to comply with anyway. The important thing is that even with those stops you are completing the work. Ideally you wouldn’t stop, but there isn’t always a perfect road for intervals and there are many factors that we have to deal with when training outside so it’s hard to keep things controlled.

yeah, it’s tough, and maybe I’m creating a problem where it doesn’t exist. I’m thinking of the difference between your key hard workouts for the week and then you’re endurance stuff. On the hard interval sessions, I just make sure I’ll get an uninterrupted shot at every interval. On the endurance rides, I’ll just have pauses, but I wouldn’t want the system to think I was struggling. Do you know if the system handles that now?

@Yep, there is no penalty for pausing during endurance workouts outside.
