Ha ha!
There was definitely a “Marmite” type response from the riders at the end of the route in Tyndrum
The route (Highland Trail) no longer goes this way, maybe too many people didn’t like it.

England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Argentina, Tibet, Nepal, India
All have something to offer, and let you get into the flow in the present where time and past / future seems suspended
Wow - looks like somewhere from a Star Wars movie! ![]()
Any Wales tips? I’ll have one week in Snowdonia and another week in Lake Disctrict next month.
Sure does… ![]()
Sadly, The Martian has led to a proliferation of silly dome shaped glamping pods…
In no particular order, Flüela pass, San Bernardino pass, Kaunertaler glacier, Göscheneralp, Albula pass north side, Julier pass north side.
Likely will add dolomites to that when I spend a week there next year.
For 7 consecutive days I rode Moab at sunrise and had the place to myself. (I still wonder how I persuaded the wife to go there for a family holiday…)
When I lived in the UK I really enjoyed riding Gospel Pass. Here’s a picture I took at the top of the pass, this guy was in the road as I came up to the top then he shuffled…slowly…across the road and turned to me when I rode by and I snapped this pic of him while pedaling away.
I started in Hay-On-Wye, a cool little village to explore in its own right, and did a shorter 50 miles loop which included the pass. I’m guessing there’s better rides from more knowledgeable folks, but I think that pass is well known and might be one to hit if you have the time.
A nice loop from Bala is to ride the road other side of Lake heading south. Left at the end up Bwlch y Groes, drop down for a loop round Lake Vyrnwy then from the end of lake, up and over and drop back down to Bala.
in Miami there is a MTB trail system called Virginia Key.
I was born and raised in Miami and learned to “Mountain” bike there. I have since moved to the PNW where the “mountain” part of MTB is literal. I find myself missing this beach-side trail system regularly. It is easy to get to, secluded, and beautiful. The trail building techniques used to make the park span 30 or more years. In one trail system you can go from mellow, kid-friendly XC trails all the way to gnarly freeride.
I will be doing a version of this ride on Monday next week ![]()
Lots of lovely roads & climbs around Lake Bala / Lake Vyrnwy, my last trip I stayed just outside Welshpool and did a couple of rides out from there
Get some good weather and you can’t go wrong really, it’s glorious ![]()
Thanks! I hope the weather cooperates ![]()
I’m going to have to drop the Jordan trail down and notch, Kyrgyzstan and sections of the Silk Road Mountain Race ![]()
The highlight was Tosor pass, a 3,900meter peak that went into a 37km downhill track that dropped 2.4km in altitude ![]()
Most fun I’ve had on a mtb!
For the mountain bikers: the south chilcotins in BC are an absolutely unbelievable biking experience. Incredibly remote: the nearest town to the park is 2 hours away down a shitty gravel road. And then a 20 minute float plane flight into the park. You ride old horse and mining trails up into the alpine, and the descents are up to 1500m of amazing single track. The scenery is spectacular, with glaciers in the backdrop, and you are truly remote. We maybe saw 3-4 other people per day, one day we didn’t see another person at all.
Beware the grizzlies though! We saw three in the alpine when we were there, luckily from far away.
The French Alps near Gourdon.
