Favorite place you have ever ridden your bike?

Alpe d’huez 1992 Tour de France Stage 14 :grinning: magical being jeered on by the fans, and then watching Andy Hampsten win

Plus an unknown road in the Tuscany region of Italy. Beautiful sunny day climbing towards a monastery through a swarm of butterflies

Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park before it’s opened to cars in the spring, but after plowing. Called the Crown Jewel of the Continent for a reason. So good.

An interesting observation is that the group of folks on Trainerroad are potentially not evenly sampled from the global cycling population. Additionally, there are many places which are marketed to cyclists, such as Mallorca, so they are going to be over-represented in this chat.

Notably under-represented are locations where the pro’s live in Europe, such as Girona.

I’m going to be there in July. Really looking forward to the “Sun” ride. Unfortunately, I won’t be there while it’s closed to cars.

Southerly sections of the Jordan trail.

Looking through the pictures, I can’t find any that do it justice.
Such a massive departure from England, amazing places and people.

I was wondering when Girona would pop up! I have to say it was a wonderful place to ride a bike and yes the drivers are courteous! Close to so much, the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees, and the foot hills around Girona. Pretty magical to me.

Going there later this spring for the first time and I can’t wait!

you will love it. It is so easy to get to Els Angels and that is a nice climb, take a moment when you get over the other side of Els Angels to visit Madremanya it is a rally cool little town. There is so much to see and to do. Have fun!

I consider myself pretty lucky living in Switzerland right at the end of the jura mountainrange lots of 8-15 min climbs right out of the door. And the swiss Alps within 90min by car. Really like the Grishona part in summer.

Can someone recommend a nice place for spring (end of April, beginning of May) cycling/hiking vacation preferably seaside with some elevation? Last year, we were in Nice (which is awesome!). Two years ago it was Provence (and it was very hot already). I was looking at Liguriean coast but the French side seems nicer. Has anyone been there?

I would drive from central Europe so Provence is as far as I feel comfortable going. We plan to go to northern Spain in June.

Favourite?
I’d say the roads above Chiang Mai come pretty close. Once you’ve got it thru your head that it’s possible to ride grades in excess of 20% the ridges and mountain villages open up hundreds of kilometers concrete, clay, and fresh asphalt roads.

Pretty sure that path also fits into some people’s ‘least favourite place I’ve ridden my bike’. Probably depends on the weather!

Don’t overthink it. Hop on a plane and go to Mallorca.

After riding BwR Arizona, Scottsdale and the Sonoran Desert are on my list of favorites. Absolute breathtaking views and I felt like I was on another planet the whole trip.
They have 300 miles of singletrack in the area.
I could easily spend a month out there. Luckily my dad lives 10 minutes from an access point to the trails :grinning:

Great area, I rode BWR last year and this year we hiked the area. Unfortunately my daughter lives ~30 minutes west, and my brother-in-law lives ~40 minutes west near the base of White Tank Mountains.

I lived and rode there in the 80’s Was real nice from Evert to Bellingham. This was before the casino appeared next to I5 in Marysville. You could ride through the reservation with little traffic.

Mallorca literally took my breath away…the roads, scenery and general respect for cyclists. Smiles for miles and not sure one could ever get bored there. Bucket list. The hype is real and was fortunate to spend nearly a month there in June 2022. Really enjoyed Maui as well…went last year and just got back from another trip recently. I’m Canadian and so will give a shout out to Prince Edward Island, I spent all of my childhood summers there and took my bike out there this past summer for the first time. It seams my favorite places are islands.

In the garage surely…what mean people rude outside :joy::joy::joy:. In all seriousness I just looked and apart from races I’ve cycled outside 3 times in past 2 years! :joy:

So many great places - North Wales, Anglesey, Scottish Borders, Aryshire, Girona, Flanders!

But if I had to choose just one, it would be the French Alps around Annecy - Cormet de Roselands, Aravis etc. Just gorgeous :sunglasses:
