What the biggest 2x chainring you can fit on the MOG?
Alexey ran a 2x at Sea Otter both in the Ben Delaney top 6 bikes video and in his cooldown video with Keegan he talked chain ring size.

I need the high end though. 50t is too small. I would go XPLR but I don’t like the jumps with 1x.
I’ve got a Tarmac SL6, and I’m really considering trying to turn it into a MOG or similar, or FRAY. I ride MTB mostly now, but I also like to throw in a longer road ride after hitting the trails for days.
we don’t have extended gravel around my area, at least within front door riding distance. I’ve got an old Pivot Vault with 38 Pathfinders and I’ve ridden all the gravel roads around me on that without issue.
MOG or FRAY or something also more road like instead of MTB like???
I have 3 bikes - Epic 8. MOG. Factor Ostro VAM.
I do a lot of riding with the MOG on the road - maybe 45-50mm deep wide wheels. 45mm fast rolling tires. Gets pretty much 100% of my outdoor use on the road from late fall until later in the spring. Great training bike, feels pretty fast.
That is, until I get on my Factor. And realize that feels like an absolute Rocket every time I hop on it after spending a lot of time on my Epic and MOG.
Don’t get me wrong, love the MOG, it’s a great bike, but don’t get the idea that it’s as quick or fast as a good road bike or you’ll be disappointed. If you don’t need that though - I could see it being a great all around road / gravel bike.
Just watched another video with Alexey in it and he ran a 52 on his 2x.
What did you end up with? Similar boat here, only on a Parlee Chebacco in Med. Want to get something more road oriented, but still an 80/20 bike…I think. Been considering the MOG or Fray or even the Cannondale Synapse. My Synapse was a much loved road bike in my past.
I have a Fray and love it. Set up with 32mm tires on SES3.4 wheels for comfort, grip, crosswinds. It’s my go to bike for mountains, endurance rides, sub par road surfaces, steep descents, windy days, wet days. Still get the race bike out for fast group rides, races (obviously!), rides on good road surfaces where I want to let rip, etc. There’s a bit of a speed difference but really only noticeable at high watts on decent roads.

I’m not the OP but do have a 2023 Aspero as well as it happens! Usually have that set up as pure gravel bike. Have ridden it with deep wheels and 35mm road tires and it’s lovely and smooth and quick enough but still feels and handles like a gravel bike where the Fray is a bit snappier and more nimble and feels like a proper road bike.
56cm frame size in both. Fray fully slammed with a 120mm stem and quite narrow bars (think they’re 390mm at the top, flaring to 440mm at the drops), Aspero with a 110mm stem but with 10mm of spacers and flared bars which are 440mm at the top. So difficult to know how much of the different feel is the frame itself vs difference in how I have them set up, suspect just the bar difference would have quite a big impact. Both amazing bikes.
