El Paso Puzzler

Anyone here do the El Paso Puzzler MTB race? I hear it is pretty tough. Coming up mid-January and thinking of doing the 35 mile version. I am 68 and regularly race MTB, CX and gravel, but not interested in doing it if it is not in some way fun. Debating between Vittoria Barzo 2.35 inch or Vittoria Sierra 2.4 on my Orbea Oiz. Thanks. Bob

Thank you. I actually saw that video. It was helpful. Anyone here do the race so that you can provide first hand feedback? I signed up for it today. So we shall see.

I won my age category. Did it 10 minutes faster than the first place guy last year and 20 minutes faster than the second place guy who is 60. I am 68. 5:20. Too long. So, a solid performance and that feels good. It was type II fun. It was too steep, too technical (rocky, scary) to really be fun. I walked 50 minutes total and pushing a bike is not fun. The flowy stuff was fun and the last 5 miles I past a lot of people in flowy terrain and that was fun. Overall, not a fun event, but I had a good time and winning always makes its better. Unless you are an expert MTBer with elite aerobic shape, don’t go. You can find other events much more fun.
