Since my turbo broke, I’ve gone and got a set of tacx rollers to replace them until I get something better. Since I didn’t have my phone to hand, I set an endurance workout to an outside one, then loaded it onto my Garmin. Using my power meter pedals and HR strap I then went ahead and did the workout as though I was out on the open road. Afterwards, the ride was uploaded to strava but had no metrics other than max HR and max power. All data during the ride didn’t seem to exist. The title was there, and a gps dot as I didn’t move.
All data is as expected in Connect and TR, but why not strava? It’s not a huge deal I just liked things the way they were it looks messy and empty to me.
I’d imagine if I used my phone and power meter then it would push through TR and populate the other platforms as expected.
Is there a setting on the Garmin itself such as “use indoors” which would save the data the way I expected?
yes there is. it comes standard with the device. maybe you deleted it? If so you need to set up an indoor activities profile on your garmin and use that. See: Edge 540 Owner’s Manual - Profiles
Ah! That’s probably it - I had it running on the commute profile from the day before. I’ll try that, cheers
To me this indicates that the data did save correctly and the problem is occurring between Garmin Connect and Strava. Since your Garmin Edge isn’t connected directly with Strava.
You could probably correct it manually by downloading the file from Garmin and uploading it to Strava.
When I ride rollers, I use a little speed sensor that clips on to the hub. That way, a roller ride appears to my Garmin and Strava as an outdoor ride.
I bought a Magene sensor off ebay because it was two for $12 but Garmin makes them as do many others.
Strava didn’t think you moved anywhere, because you didn’t.
Try to label it as a “Race” and see if your data appears.
I think you can record it as an indoor ride on your Garmin and Strava will recognize it as such. I’m sure there is a way to work around that, but I just use a wheel speed sensor.
Hmm if that’s the issue then I think you can also change it to “indoor Ride” or “virtual ride” and maybe that fixes it.
Those aren’t options on my app.
Ahh yeah it’s under ‘tags’
It gets automatically selected for me when I use the ‘indoor’ profile on my Edge.
I don’t see it in my app either. I guess it’s only in the browser version of Strava.
I don’t think Strava cares if you move.
The speed sensor solved all my strava problems. I just want strava to track rides, time and miles. I don’t care if it’s virtual, indoor, or outdoor. I record roller rides to my Garmin Edge and with the speed sensor Strava just shows it as a ride. I have GPS turned off so it just looks like an outdoor ride without a GPS computer. It’s the same with my Kickr. I record and control the trainer with my Edge and the Edge gets the speed sensor data from the Kicker. Strava just seems everything as a ride. No tags involved.
I’m not following your emoji.
You said Strava doesn’t care if you are not moving, but then admit that you are telling Strava that you are moving.
Strava doesn’t need GPS data if you have a wheel speed sensor, it just uses that data instead.
