My wife, having read various pieces on potential benefits for older women (she’s 68) from creatine supplementation, is keen to try it out. However, I’m finding it bewildering to identify a brand that has both third-party testing by a reputable organization (e.g., NSF Safe for Sports) and is available from a amazon.ca or other site that won’t involve cross-border shipping into Canada. Also looking for protein powder supplier.
Very new to this and appreciative of any help and suggestions?
Canadian protein is a fantastic source, they have a massive selection of protein types, as well as other supplements. Good prices too. I usually order online, but I recently saw them at Costco too.
I’m also in BC. I recommend using creatine monohydrate, it is one of the simplest, most common, and most researched forms of creatine. It is also extremely cheap and very common; I have seen it at Shoppers, Superstore, and London drugs.
Normal supplement stores (eg: Popeye’s) will have more complex formulations that include creatine, but imo that’s all unnecessary and just a way to charge more.
Just FYI, NSF Certified for Sport not only maintains a database of trustworthy supplements, but even has a handy phone app that lets you scan the QR code for a product to quickly determine whether it is certified. It isn’t perfect, due to an ever-changing market, but it’s a handy resource for evaluating supplements.
We got a bag of Canadian Protein’s Creatine product. So far so good, but it doesn’t seem to be recognized by the NSF phone app, or listed on their site.
