I don’t know if big pro races are going to go on as planned, but I don’t see local races getting canceled as widely. California has already started crit racing again, and CX has no pack riding. Ohio (my area) is starting to hold running races again in waves of 50 people starting together, and none of our local CX series have fields that big (maybe a few). So I don’t see them getting canceled.
I think we’ll see CX races in Wisconsin and Indiana since as @CaptainThunderpants said we’re already started in to see races in other areas of the country. It’s just the political situation in Illinois kind of forced Chicago CX cup hand.
I think there is still some hope for a couple of local races or some informal get together CX races and less likely a crit race here in Chicago and Illinois.
The only thing we’re seeing in Texas so far are time trial format mountain bike and gravel events. I don’t think any of our local promoters want to even think about crit races right now due to the liability and the fact that we are seeing a significant increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations, especially in Dallas County where I live.
I hope we do get some CX races, but only if it’s safe and doesn’t contribute to the spread.
My local crit series is alive and well running with sold out fields from the 4/5 all the way to the P12 fields. Temp check at the gate, masks on for all anytime you are not in staging or racing, hand sanitizer before and after bathroom breaks.
MTB calendar is also full and first event is June 28th completely sold out.
It’s a calculated risk for the participants and the promoter but I’m planning on a full race season this fall. Cancellations for fall events at this point seem pretty milquetoasty to me. I would guess if the promoters are willing to promote it racers will show up.
False
Guess I should have said the only events that I know about… ![]()
There’s also the Piney Hills Classic mountain bike race this fall that’s back on the calendar though I have my doubts whether it will happen or not.
Even if it does I may not want to take the risk. Depends where we are with the containment or lack thereof.
The whole fall XC and XCM calendar is up not just the LA race (Piney Hills is in LA not TX). As are some of the fall road races. Nothing up yet for CX so I can see if that’s all you care about then you might be missing the rest of the opportunities that are up and open for registration. ![]()
Yep, edited. I forgot that’s actually in Louisiana but it is part of the Texas Fall Series.
I didn’t know the Driveway Series had started back up but I don’t race crits so if I don’t hear about it from friends or the TR forum I don’t usually know about those. ![]()
XCO and XCM races in Michigan start in July! ![]()
Where? Looking at SoCal Cycling and Ncnca and it looks pretty shut down.
Bay Area. NorCal Cycling just posted a video recently.
Looks like one of our local to Dallas weekday crit series may be coming back in July. There’s hope!
Also, if they can pull off crit events I don’t see how they won’t be able to hold cross and mountain bike events in the fall.
Alviso is just an informal group ride/practice crit. It’s not a sanctioned crit and there is no entry fee or anything like that.
It was also pretty directly in violation of the local ordinance in Santa Clara country around social distancing, which is why he got lit up on r/velo for the video.
There was also a huge blowup discussion on the NCNCA FB page about the video, and now there’s a post from the NCNCA president requesting that everyone consider their local mandates before participating in group rides.
I did see that there’s going to be a race in SoCal next month, the Cajon Circuit Race. I’m not sure how they were able to get a permit from the county/city/town/etc… USAC is providing permits and insurance if you can get the permits from the local government/authorities. There is also a race in Georgia next (?) weekend, apparently.
Good thing the south hasn’t had any issues with Covid spikes ![]()

Add Levi’s Gran Fondo to the list of 2020 cancelled events. It’s actually a big change:
- Moved from the historical 1st Saturday in October to May
- Start / finish and routes completely changed
Looks like the World Cup at Waterloo is a no-go for this upcoming cross season. UCI has moved it to the 2021-22 season along with two other races, shortening the overall season by three races.
My wife and I have made the trip to Iowa City the past two years to compete and watch the pros at Jingle Cross. But with Jingle Cross losing its World Cup status we figured we’d give Waterloo a try instead this year. So much for that.
Sea Otter cx’d today.
And pretty much all US national championships just cancelled.
