Narrower tires are faster aerodynamically.
Because they are no improvement over the old ones and likely have less puncture protection.
Iām with @Aeroiseverything, not sure why they hyped them up so much when they canāt back their own claims.
Well, yes and no.
Generally, a smaller frontal area will likely reduce air resistance⦠but that also highly depends on how the tire interferes with the rim of the wheel it is mounted to. Modern wheels will usually have minimal penalty in drag depending on whether you use a 23c or a 25c (often sub 1W at 45kph).
Considering Conti has dropped the 23c option, I wouldnāt necessarily say, that their overall line up has become slimmerā¦
Donāt know if a possible 1W saved on aerodynamics (because they just made the tire narrower) really makes up for the 12W of undelivered saving in Crr.
They did win Paris-Roubaix and a World TT championship in the space of a few weeks . . .
They did get quite a bit lighter.
Itās time to get over what a couple product managers spoon fed to the press at launch time. For me, they will still be my go-to tire for every day riding. I donāt see any other tires that I want to switch to that are as fast and as durable.
And you think that would not have happened on the previous version?
These tires do not seem like an improvement over the previous iteration, they are less puncture resistant and thereās a big increase in price. I donāt see a reason to celebrate these tires.
Iām with you on that. I race on a pair with latex tubes, bar the track I canāt see that changing. However, I would have been happier if they were 12W faster.
I didnāt care for them. I had the 29mm Enve tires mounted on my Enve AR 4.5s. Comfortable but donāt feel very fast to me. They also puncture a lot. Iām a bigger rider so maybe that has something to do with it but I never had issues with Schwalbes or GP 5000 TLs. Im a big Enve fan boy but was very disappointed in their road tires.

Yeah the TLs are fastā¦the primary upside I see to the TRs is that theyāre apparently a bit bigger, so I wonāt have to wrestle with getting them on my 7.8s. Not sure thatās worth the price tag and the increased RR though!
Finally got out on the road, did a 52km loop on local roads. Most of these are poor surfaces. It felt like a smooth ride. I PRād one segment in a crosswind. Comparing with 3 other attempts the power was also the lowest. There was one attempt with the same bike with 5000 TLs on R470 rims, and two with GO4000 SII on open pro. So itās nice to see some benefit from the Enve rims.

Just got my pair of 28mm. 7 days from Europe to US. Will mount them up with latex tubes first to give them a quick try.
They mounted up as easily as regular tubed clincher GP5000.
I got them to seat with a regular pump, very straightforward.
On 23mm internal, hookless Zipp 303S wheels, measured width at widest point after 24hr (with latex tubes at 65 PSI) - 29.6mm.
I tried the enve tires and had 3 flats in 2 weeks after 2 flats in 2 years on gp5000s and pro ones. I took them off after the third flat
I bought a pair (25mm) for my upcoming race given all the raving reviews, however having them mounted (tubeless) earlier this week, I noticed they started losing pressure quite quickly. Over the span of 24 hours, pressure would go down from 4.5 bar to 3 bar and even more. When riding, pressure would go down quickly as well. One tyre has this more than the other one. I did not have this on my previous TLs tyres (Hutchinson). The tyres were properly mounted and each one āpoppedā twice when inflating, so they should have been set firmly. I added 40ml sealant, the same one Iāve been using on my other tyres and has proven to work great.
Does anyone have a similar experience? Or any suggestions how to address this? Is this a manufacturing flaw? Or expected? Or�
Iām not going to take the risk for my race tmrw, so I put my old ones back on.
Spray on some soapy water and look for any slow leaks on the rim and from any spoke holes
My guess is that you have a leak and that itās not the tire. You deformed your rim tape or need to tighten a valve or something.
Soap is a good idea.
Some tires are a little porous and need a 2nd application of sealant. Iāve only used the 5000 TL so far so Iām not sure about the S TR.

My rim does not have rim tape (there are no holes in the rim bed and it is designed as such for tubeless use). My Hutchinsons maintain pressure without problemsā¦
Iāll try the soap suggestion next week.
And I may swap out the valve to see if it makes a difference (although if it were the valve, I would think my other tyres would lose pressure as well, no?).
What do you mean by āsome tires ⦠need a 2nd application of sealantā - there is plenty of sealant in the tyre (40ml) - how do I apply it a second time?
Some tires are a bit porous. You can even see them weep from the sidewalls. It takes some days for the sealant to coat the insides and imbed itself into the casing.
The 5000 tubeless changed from being TL (tubeless) to TR (tubeless ready). They removed the layer of butyl rubber inside the tire.
But losing a lot of air during a ride sounds like some other issue - not sealing fully at the bead, tape, etc.
