Concerns over sub-max heart rate data

Lifetime fitness does the equivalent of a ramp test - treadmill with speed and incline going up, similar to an ECG under effort protocol. I do one of those regularly, and never get close to my max HR, the incline makes it much more taxing on muscular endurance than on max aerobic capacity.

Not necessarily - you need to be able to produce a ton of mechanical work to get to max HR, so require muscular endurance in the sport you are doing to get there. I sure can’t get to max HR swimming, I drown before that…

Exactly. This is what I’m thinking is the culprit to all this. Muscular endurance just doesn’t seem to be able to match what my aerobic capacity will allow for.

EDIT: Even though I’m completely gassed at the end of high intensity efforts haha

Actually mine was performed with incline fixed at 1% but yes, speed ramped. I’m interested in getting an answer as to how they derived maxHR. We’ll see what they say.

I have a funny feeling it comes from the 220-age formula.
