Hi guys,
How do you wash the utensils used to clean your waxed chain? My pot is full of wax and it’s pretty hard to get rid of. Do you flush it down the drain? Doesn’t it become solid and clog the pipes?
Thanks!
I would definitely NOT do this. As you suggest, once it cools, will it probably solidify into a massive clog. I’ve no reason to make this claim other than knowing what cold wax looks like.
That said, I simply heat it so it’s liquid and pour it off into a storage container. At some point once it gets full, I’ll likely toss it in the trash bin.
I make fire starters. Cotton balls, dryer lint, or paper towels soak up the wax.
In my crock pot, I use liners : Amazon.com: Reynolds Kitchens Premium Slow Cooker Liners - 13 x 21 Inch, 6 Count : Home & Kitchen
Then, after a few dozen uses, I just pull the liner and toss it in the trash. Absolutely spotless crock pot and zero hassle.
No sparkles?
I am sure mine would come out quite sparkly at the bottom.
that’s what I was looking for, thank you
breaking the wax around an iron door handle, do you think this could damage the chain?
I use a wooden dowel that is starting to get chain grooves in it, so door handle probably not the best option.
Are any of the additives in MSW or Silca SS flammable? If so do they emit nasty sh!t when burned? I’d be slightly concerned about this before making a candle…
To be honest I care more about my chain than my handle
I use a copper pipe . No damage.
I love the smell of 2 stroke caster oil in the morning at the races.
just make sure it’s softer than the chain. Iron might be softer enough?
I have an old pulley wheel on a nail that I use to break links -
I’m likely selling a bike soon, where I replaced chain/chainring/cassette over the summer and they’ve only seen wax. The chain isn’t even close to 0.5% on my Park Tool chain checker. If the buyer doesn’t want to wax, can they just start throwing regular lube on the current waxed chain or would they need a new one?
I would just hit the chain with some boiling water to wash off the wax, and lube it up for them. No need to replace the chain, I would just get the wax off.
I’d suggest throwing boiling water on the buyer instead if they talk about ruining your hard work with wet lube, since you’re holding real life proof that a waxed drive train is superior! ![]()
If you’re going back to waxed, that one will need to be fully stripped, (or Silca Strip Chiped)
Silca just came out with a video that basically says you can mix some Synergetic in with their wax for use in wet conditions.
