Cape Epic 2021 Training and Advice

Hi everyone - if anyone is interested in racing in 2022 Cape Epic, please let me know. My partner and I won’t be able to make it unfortunately (babies and life got on our way with this 2-year delay dream)

Hi everyone,

unfortunately my partner for the Cape 2021 has an injury and won´t be able to take the start on October. If somebody is interested in participate buying his part and to race with me, please contact on: ergaro76@gmail.com. I´m a 45 male rider from Spain, with medium sport level and more than 10 years of experience. I have participated in other stage races. Thanks.

Hi, you might want to advertise this on www.bikehub.co.za, a popular south african bike forum too.

Hi, thanks, I’ve done It. Greetings!

Hi, not sure if anyone checks this thread anymore but figured I’d ask. Wondering how quickly the registration fills up? Did most people get in through the regular registration, the lottery and/or is there a trick to getting registered? (Hoping to do this in 2026 so I have some time)

Thanks!

Hi. Registration usually sells out. In <20 seconds….

I’m also hoping to be there in 2026; can you give me a 15s head start!

ha! Good to know, appreciate the info. Sounds like it will be a waiting list game!

13 months from now when we are both successfully registered, we will start a “Cape Epic 2026 Training and Advice” thread!

I’m not sure on success rates as I haven’t seen them published anywhere.

When I did it in 2018 there was a bit of discussion on the ground with a general opinion from the SA peeps (small sample size) that if you’re entering from overseas there is a much higher chance of success in the ‘lottery’ than the locals…

The “Early Bird” entries open either on Sunday or Monday after the race. Monday sounds better. There are only a small number of these entries so you have to have some fast fingers. After that it is the lottery, and there might be some added weight to international entries. Why wouldn’t you want that as an organizer.

If you really want a guaranteed entry either volunteer or find a volunteer who has an entry. Looking at 2026 means you need to sign up for 2025 which gives you plenty of time. If you do volunteer you will gain some valuable insight into the race operations. These are not paid entries, just an entry.

I might have a 2025 volunteer entry, but that depends if I use it or not.

Thanks to both of you, this is all great info and very helpful. As much as I’d love to go and volunteer, 2025 isn’t an option. Wish I could, would love to see the event from that perspective also. Sounds like you both have done this before. Here’s hoping I’m in a position to ask you some race specific questions after the 2026 registration opens! Cheers.
