Breck Epic Tires 2025

Another year, another Breck Epic tire thread! Quick one…if we’re talking Schwalbe…super ground or super trail? Let’s figure we’re talking about somebody who is easy on equipment, not a fast descender, but 200# kitted up. Thanks guys!

Have you done Epic before? It’s pretty chunky in places.

N of 1, but I raced it a couple years ago and went Super Trail on Nobby Nics. 180ish lbs, fast descender, hardtail. It seemed like cheap insurance. Flats are slow. I never felt like I brought too much tire, but I wasn’t trying to take the race to Lachlan.

I prerode stage 1 in 2022 just before getting a nice high altitude case of covid induced quarantine and, yeah, it was pretty chunky no doubt! Was thinking nobby nice front and wicked will rear and I don’t want to deal with some tire problem in the icy early afternoon rain so thinking super trail too. But then again, I start thinking rolling resistance and … you know…

I really wish there was CRR data for Super Trail. With Ground being faster than Race you wonder what the penalty is.

The Co Trail stage and Wheeler get pretty spicy. People get through it all on Super Race, so I’m sure it’s a luck and risk/reward call.

I rode it on rekon race 2.4s front and rear with no problems. Lots of mezcals out there as well.

Yeah I agree. I have a little relatable data…booster pro TR vs. ardent race maxx speed, this is with swapping the front wheel only so roughly double it for the set. Definitely worth it for a race like breck epic as the TR casing is road bike thin. I’d give up 2 min/hr to not worry about anything and gain some traction too.
