Bike Pants that aren't tights?

anyone find pants they like that aren’t tights?

I tried assos and velocio mountain bike pants but they didn’t fit.

wearing normal gym pants (lululemon) leads to massively sweating.

getting dressed during the winter is becoming a pita. i am riding slower anyway as it is and care close to zero about saving a few seconds. just don’t wanna be a sail.

in the winter I wear really thick socks and putting tights on is just a pita…for my casual rides I would love to have slim fitting and breathable - but not skin tight pants…and wear bib shorts under.

thank you!

Before I got into Lycra, I use to wear the previous version of Endura Humvee. The first version was a bit too combat trouser style but I quite the new version though:

Have you looked at rock climbing pants

Do a search for “commuter bike pants”……you should find plenty of options.

Rapha lightweight trail are nicely tapered and reasonably fitted.

OrNot lightweight are my favourite casual looking but they are not quite as fitted as the above.

I find the lightweight variants ideal for moderate zone 2 riding here in London.

Get something like these. Still need shorts with a chamois, but I wear them mountain biking in the cold seasons. Not bad for walking the dog and bumming around the house too.

Any MTB type long pants?

I wear the Fox ranger pants. They’re awesome! I even wear them for some non cycling activities. (still use a chamoi under them)

I use these a lot in the winter paired with an MTB bib liner and they work great. I’ll use them on any type of ride even if I’m not on my MTB.

Pearl Izumi have nice ones but they aren’t cheap. I decided to buy a set during their Black Friday sale and I wish I would have bought two.

Most ‘pants’ I have are tights style, but do rock some really lightweight ‘rain pants’ that are very comfortable, not like a ziploc bag sweaty mess. They are a light nylon fabric with a coating on the outside (for rain). I got them at REI, and might be their store brand. Problem with some ‘pants’ is they tend to have too much fabric, so finding a loose ‘tight’ might be advised? :person_shrugging: Maybe look at Fox Racing?

thank you everyone.

gonna start with fox mountain bike paints, ornot, and pearl izumi. all have generous return policies if it doesn’t fit.

Another option are long pants for trail riding.

In what way didn’t they fit? Were they too tight?

both of them were just really really wierdly shaped on me. hard to explain but the cut just sat way too low on me. the velocio was a bit too tight in the wrong spots.

most of my gear is assos. I have found they fit the best. I’ve had some of it for 2 years now and everything looks brand new. so I tried them first.

both of those pants looked awesome though. if they had fit I’d have been really really happy with either one.

Tri shorts under normal trousers are an option for some situations too.

Cognative MTB

The waistband is highly adjustable with hook and webbing waistband. Their mtb shorts have this feature as well.

They also offer and un-hemmed version for taller riders.

Fox MTB pants FTW - Defend Fire Lunar Pants. freaking awesome and perfect for my needs. they have insulation down to the knees (I wear pretty tight knee high socks when it’s super cold so that’s a great fit for me - this is what drove me to want pants…putting on long tights was just a pita over these socks). Anyway they have a built in buckle - no need for a belt, cool / fun star patten on the knees, nice taper at the ankles with zipper, little bit of water resistance, fairly light, nice room in the trunk for bib shorts. hard to explain but they sound great…it’s not an annoying swish sound like rain pants.

I’m keeping the OrNot for casual / work wear. very well made. I currently wear lululemon…these look just a bit different…I dunno. I like them. 4 way stretch is legit. they’ll go great in my rotation. love that they are USA made.

I can see myself using the OrNots if it’s a little chilly out and I’m going somewhere where I’ll get off the bike and walk around in public or something. or if I rode my bike to disc golf or hike…that’d be perfect.

thank you everyone.

I have some pearl ones that were on sale and I’m a big fan. Wouldn’t pay full price though
