Big Sky Biggie - Bike Choice

Hey forum,

I’m doing the 30-mile Big Sky Biggie in two weeks. Trying to decide between two bikes - my 2019 S-Works Epic (super light and great for climbing, but 100mm brain fork and shock) or 2023 Epic Evo (not as nimble, but 120mm travel and electronic shifting.) It’s a decision between the best option for climbing vs. the best option for the long downhills.

Any previous particpants have advice for me? Thanks.

Jeff

I think the Epic Evo likely wins in both climbing and descending. That’s one of the lightest XC frames out there, isn’t it?

Does it have a lockout?

Yes, it does. The 100mm Sworks is lighter and more efficient, but the Evo definitely wins going downhill.

Those climbs look long, but the descents are long too. I’d personally rather have the insurance on the descents after a long climb.

Climbing will feel similar on both bikes, even if one is slightly faster. The descents will feel different, though, and that’s why I’d take the Evo.

I think the Evo is an all-around better bike regardless..

Enjoy the ride! :person_mountain_biking:
