First thanks to all whom will contribute. I purchased a pair of eliel cycling bibs and the end of the chamois sits right in the middle of the sit bones and becomes extremely painful as half the sit bone is on chamois and half off. These were on clearance and are not eligible for return so I am stuck with them. Has anyone ever removed the stiching to free the chamois pad and move them if you did how did you do it. If not what did you do to make them workable. Again thank you.
Honestly, it will be tough to do without ruining the shorts. The stitching between chamois and the actual shorts is very tight, almost like an embroidery.
Your best best is probably to take it to a local tailor and see if they can do it, so ask Eliel if it is a service they could provide.
Really seems like the quality for Eliel has dropped dramatically recently. A shame because they used to make great stuff.
You will need a seam ripper. You will need to be very careful and only rip from the chamois side.
I wouldn’t do that. Bibs are, in my experience, like saddles. Good fit depends on your anatomy as much as on other factors. I don’t think it is a good idea to take them apart and try to put them back together, hoping for a better fit.
If I were in your position, I’d just take away that my body is not a good fit of eliel bib shorts.
I understand your point, but at this point he has nothing to lose. The bibs don’t work for him, so why not try and get them to work? He has already dropped the coin for them……so spend a few extra $$ and take them to a tailor and see if he can make them work.
If it doesn’t, he bins them anyway. Same end result, basically so give it a try.
While I get your point, chamois are in my experience a dark art. What should the tailor do precisely? Where should the chamois be placed instead?
I’d sell them 50 % off to a riding buddy. That’s what I have seen other people in my communities do, not just with bib shorts, but also with saddles and pedals.
100%….good chance the experiment fails and he loses a bit more cash.
And I’m never buying used bibs from anyone. Gross.
Yup, and my butt seems to have an expensive taste. I tried a few cheap DHB bib shorts and my rear end just said nope. But there are even differences among expensive bib shorts. My favorites are currently by 7Mesh.
I’m really into 7mesh gear. In addition to quality, comfort and fit, one of the things I really like about them is they don’t make a dozen different items of each type. You want bibs? decide if you want cargo pockets or not, after that, you’ve got 2 choices. The other thing I like is their logo is not obnoxiously prominent.
Aero Tech Designs sells replacement chamois Replacement Cycling Chamois Pads available in Men’s and Women’s (aerotechdesigns.com)
Their phone number is listed on the site. They likely have someone who can provide some insight into replacing a chamois. I’ve been curious about this myself, but never called.
Yeah, and they do not shy away from nice colors for their jerseys, jackets and such. Reviewers usually give them top grades, and the only common complaint is price.
Their bib shorts have very wide, soft and slightly straps. My Castellis and my Sportful bib shorts have narrow, very inelastic straps. The ones of my Sportful are also slightly too short. Finding a good pair of bib shorts isn’t as easy as it seems.
