Best deadlift variant (without barbell)

After listening to Chad and others, I’d like to incorporate some deadlifting. Here is some background:

  1. I have not really deadlifted since high school
  2. during these crazy days, i don’t have access to a barbell
  3. the heaviest weights I have are two 12lb dumbbells.

My questions are:

  1. should I start with the lighter weights? How many reps?
  2. should I load up one of my kids old backpacks and use it like a kettlebell lift?
  3. should I not even bother if I don’t have anyone to coach me through form, using a barbell?
