I have looked into adjustable dumbbells recently to set up a compact and efficient home gym. After going through reviews on Wirecutter, Men’s Health, and Garage Gym Reviews, two models keep popping up as top picks:
I’m mainly focusing on strength training and need something that saves space, is durable, quick to adjust between sets, and comfortable to grip.
Still not sure which one is the better buy. If anyone’s used either (or both), I’d really appreciate your input before I pull the trigger.
Thanks!
I would worry that you would quickly outgrow the 45lb (22.lb pair) option. But that’s of course highly dependent on your current strength level. For leg strength, you’d definitely be forced to do a lot of single leg exercises which is not terrible but just something to consider
I have these. Substantially more expensive but substantially more weight. My background is as a sprint/power athlete, so I needed the weight. One of the adjusters on the handle broke and the company replaced it quickly with no questions.
If you’re looking for the ‘best’, we have the Powerblock exp pro w/ that go up to 90 lbs (current models go up to 100 lbs))
We’ve been using these multiple times weekly for 6+ years and they work and look as good as new. The design and comfort is excellent. Basic features that just work well and not many parts that could possibly fail or break.
I’ve seen other brands and models that look good/slightly more comfortable, but unsure if the designs will be as reliable.
Of course, these aren’t cheap, but some weight lifting things you definitely get what you pay for.
I have the Rep x Pepin set, they’re excellent. Smaller form factor is what decided it for us, and the quality is next level. Expensive? Sure, but it’s one of those buy once type things.
